Whiskey...sorry to hear about the anxiety. But glad that youve rationalised and worked it all out. I actually think its a healthy thing not having to much gear...apart from the space aspect, you can also concentrate on the gear that you have and make more of it, and you end up appreciating it more. Thats why i recently sold a bunch of stuff.

I'm gonna get the cab made without speakers and then load them when I get the cash. Running it and my 4x12 isn't an issue because the sole purpose of getting the 6x12 was to eliminate needing two cabs. Still, its one of those "It'd be cool if I could" type things. Where are your two 8ohm speakers located? From what I've read the middle was where everyone was putting theirs but does it really matter?
In the middle is where Emperor put them, and I think I'd do the same if I was to wire one myself. That way even if there is a volume difference its masked very very well.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I'd put 'em at the top. I'm debating having Petras (Atlas cabs) build me a 6x12, with the top 2x12 isolated so that I can either use it in stereo or power it all with one amp. Why have the (potentially) louder ones at the top? Stage monitor! Even when we play bigger venues, I rarely have any guitar in the monitor. Also, it would project a bit better, whereas the lower 4 speakers will be more blocked by my body.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Sorry to hear that whiskey but I can completely understand the reasoning. I have all my stuff at my shed and I'm fine with how it is. I seem to work better with everything out and about. same with painting. I do better when I throw everything all over the floor. I actually get more creative and quicker about turning out stuff. same with the gear room.
empty... that's how I did my 612 with the loudest up top. but I isolated each set of 2 and just ran it to a single jack.

with all the carpet space you can always turn into the Uncle Grandfather of the Doom Room and buy all the pedlolz.

Whisk, this is really win/win for you. That bass rig is pretty fucking epic so it's not like you wont get "the full effect" Small old tube amps tend to sound killer.
I use the big rig when playing late at night but I have to be careful not to accidentally goose the volume.

We recently moved our bedroom to the second story and all my gear is in the basement. I was just fiddling with some ambient esque riffs with lots of verb and delay but thought that it would be wise to play rather quietly. I heard my wife moving around upstairs and realized that my phone was by my desk and the she had probably texted me twenty minutes ago to turn down. I was ready to retort that I wasn't playing loudly or even distorted but decided that it was 9:30 and my wife gets up really early and that I should just call it quits. I had been playing for a few hours so what's the sense at this stage. So I shut all my shit off and put my guitar down and head over to my desk to send the "sorry for loud" text only to realize that I never got one and that my wife just came to the main level to use the bathroom.
Sigh.

I am blessed with a wife who'll sleep through anything. I still try to keep it respectful late night. Both to her and the neighbors. I get plenty of quality volume time as it is, no need to push a good thing.

I didn't realise how much gear you had whiskey!
There is a feeling of freedom that comes with minimal equipment, I like to think you make the gear really work for you that way.
More thinking, more feeling!
