The Doom Room: ILF Edition

its ridiculous how happy I am with my Superbass...tonight whilst rehearsing i worked out a way that I don't even need to use my neck pickup anymore.

I'd always used the neck pickup on acoustic parts to remove the harshness of the high strings, and switch back to bridge for distortion so it would cut a bit more. Tonight I EQ'd the super bass with a little less treble and more bass on my cleans, so on the bridge pickup the clean tone was exactly what i wanted...then i dropped the bass and increased the mids and treble on the QM pedal. Now I just stay on the bridge pickup and my two main tones are taken care of...

It all sounds a bit trivial...but I had never been able to get a clean sound out of any amp that could substitute the neck pickup...If I tried, i usually got a lifeless tone that almost had no treble and was lost. But with this amp, it just works.

Also...BlackArts are redoing the Ritual pedal in custom colours...I had a chat to him about one and he gave me an option to choose a custom colour...but being the bitch that I am, I couldn't decide on one, so I gave him three different ideas...so his going to pick one and surprise me...cant wait to get a Ritual again and run it through my beast...so stupid for selling that pedal when I had it before.

I'm jelly of that amp. And that QM. That will probably be my next purchase.

Indeed BAT are making some neat color Rituals. I hit him up a bit ago about a purple one, which should be here tomorrow, but that green was hard to pass up. What ideas did you give him?

Speaking of which, anyone have comments on G12T75s? Been looking at those Ampeg cabs that crop up used that came stock with them.

I have them in one of my cabs. I don't play at high volumes, but they are not bad speakers at all. Big bottom end that holds together, but can be a bit ice picky with the highs if you are running a bright amp. I didn't really like the dirty channel of my Jet City with it, but the Orange Dark Terror and Blackstar play real nice with them.

I believe thats what I have in 4x12...i really like them. a good amount of bottom end and pretty well balanced in high end. Works really well with my rig.

So they would probably sound pretty good if I'm running my second AOR dialed in a bit darker? I'm wondering equal parts about resale value of speakers and convenience of decent speakers coming stock in a cab. If I come across one, I'll probably go for it, since they usually go for <$300. Not having stereo rig is bugging me, mostly for looping

Id say that would sound pretty good with the AOR, especially dialling out some of the highs.

ax im actually pumped. after my newst rescue pit flipped out over volume and now this im ready for a pretty big change at home. jam space will still have a lot of shit there and friends are buying shit and being really supportive so im doin pretty good.

Also, saw The Atlas Moth and The Proselyte tonight. Both bands killed it. Never heard The Proselyte before. Sorta have a Helms Alee meets early Torche thing.

The Atlas Moth was great. Haven't listened to them all that much before, but they put on a helluva show. Highly recommend show all around.

I tried to post yesterday about the uncle acid show, but it wouldn't let me post it. Here's what I was going to say.

Saw uncle acid last night. It's rare that I'm blown away by a live band. In fact, in some ways I think I might just hate music because I usually am super critical and just don't like bands when I go to shows. But they were jaw dropping good. Great tone, super tight, great energy. It was the full package. I love their records and they were even better live, as any good band should be.

I always thought it sounded like they had a really good singer, but that a big part of the vocal sound was layered vocal tracks. I was all ready to be disappointed cause that's not going to happen live. But boy was I wrong. Both guitarists are actually great singers and the layered vocal sound is real in that both of them are singing together pretty much the whole time. And it was tight as fuck. The drummer was also the pinnacle of perfection. Solid as hell. Super tight. Very minimal fills. And he totally controlled the songs just with how hard he hit in a perfect way. Super dynamic and nuanced. Every hit was fucking perfect. And when it was right he hit really hard, which I love.

Best live band I've seen in a good while. Do not miss it if they're coming near you.

I think Parkers right about the layered vocal. It seemed like any part where I thought it would be just one singer, both of them were contributing, and the parts I thought were two or more the bassist would join in as well for three part harmony. I really dug seeing them live as they are one of those bands you can tell put a lot of thought into it and getting to see the result was killer.
