I think this applies to all of them, maybe not in the way slk meant it, but jumping in the deep end is the best way to learn to swim when it comes to recording. I am a HUGE fan of ableton. Very awesome stuff in there. I am constantly learning new things it can do and ways to do things faster and easier.
My best idea ever when it came to this stuff (may not have actually been my idea) was to make a template file that I always use as a starting point. So when I find a thing that makes the vocals sound better, I just leave it on the template for next time. It makes setting up to record a single click process.
I'd also recommend at least a mid level interface to start with. If you are here, you by default almost certainly put more thought and effort into any musical endeavor than most people do. So I very much doubt the capabilities of say a two input interface will suffice.
I'm currently using the Scarlett 18i8 and its awesome and a great upgrade from the 2i2 I was using before. both sound great, the 18i8 just has more inputs. I'ma allready thinking abouut the need for more though....
I still have the 2i2 so if anyone needs it, hit me up. I was going to start bringing a laptop and a couple condensers to shows but with the rig complexity we have and everything that goes on I don't think worrying about recording our shows is up there on the priority list. Doom bros discount and all that of course.
Wildbelor and Whisk, can you guys cc me your convo about the HOLFY FUCKING SHIT MOUNTAIN! I'm pretty sure he has the same thoughts I am having about it and no need to double the correspondence.
Nic. Fucking beautiful man. Dear god I don't now how you dont just keep them all, all the time haha. Especially dig the octo etch. Wild.
Skully! SO wish nick would hurry up and invent the DR teleporter so we could go visit all you on the wrong coast. Have a killer show man. wish I could hear it in person.
