I'm liking my Joyo OCD clone a lot. I find that I like using a shitload of output with less gain, and since the tone acts as a high cut, I can leave it almost wide open and get some gnarly sounds with a minimal amount of gain. That said, I don't feel the need for much tonal control going INTO the amp, so something with more EQ options might be more up your alley. Quantum Mystic and Nick's suggestions are probably good bets. Shit, most of these suggestions are probably good bets.

None tighter.

That said, the Joyo is probably the best $30 I've spent in a while. Was nailing some Isis chug this morning before work. :doom:

The Box of Rock is pretty stellar in all seriousness. And we all know your love affair with zvex, so there's my vote.

Unrelated, but I'm picking up an Ampeg v2 on Monday. Just got a dunlop mini fuzz face silicon today. Much riff. So fuzz.

I saw a decent price on a v4 on craigslist the other day... then I realized that it was some modern version. V4bh or something like that. Bummer.

Yeah but if you decide to go for the Joyo OCD clone remember that the true bypass is bullshit. It is a millennium bypass that is poorly done. Pedal does not pass signal when there is no power plugged in. I have one and it is a good o.d for the bucks aside from the crappy bypass.
Edit: Maybe the Crowther Hot Cake might also be a good option also. And I know you deal with Tom a bit so maybe a Fuzzhugger Arc Flash might get you what you need. Does o.d all the way up to fuzz. I love mine. Awesome crunchy od at an even awesomer price.

Any ideas?

i've been stoked on darren's ape blaster fuzz for quite a while now. however it's a one knobber with no eq, so it might not be up your alley, depending. but it does have a bass cut switch that i never used at first but have found useful recently. i also found the supercollider to be pretty good for this, even though it's muff based. the eq is really powerful, huge amounts of gain, and it's a pretty "distortion-y" kind of fuzz. i'm sure others have better suggestions, cause i have less experience than a lot of folks here with buying and flipping shit.

i wanted to say though, i recently worked wonders on the bass response on my amp by changing preamp tubes and getting some fancy pants vintage shit that i got a good price on. it really solved some problems that no pedal has been able to fix.

I had the same thought right after reading Christian's post. Some one else suggested the QM, that'd be good. We all know anything nic builds you will likely rule, I don't think the elements has quite the low end you are looking for. OCD is a bit trebly to my ear, could just be how it acts in my rig as I know a ton of folks swear by it.

Are you using an eq at all? those MXR's are cheap and can really create some flexibility I like to get things as good as I can when I make a change/npd and then turn the eq on and fine tune. Makes a huge difference.

I didnt suggest the QM, as I dont think its that tight on the low end...i still find it a little flabby, in a good way obviously, and I love it...but if you want tight...OCD is a good option, but I think anything fuzzy is not going to be good for palm mutes...but maybe my idea of tight lowend is too tight...?

I'm using the Naga viper and elements set to clean boost for additional volume as a solo boost/cutting tool. We have a faster intro on one of the songs and it added a ton of definition to it. If you have something with tons of bottom but to flubby, that'd tighten it up for sure.

I think some of my best chugging thick palm muted stuff came from my Demon King and BAT Pharaoh combo running into my RedBear. That's not a very efficient solution though.

Guys in Loma Prieta use OCDs into Ampeg V4s and get plenty of good chug so OCD or clones thereof are probably worth checking out.

The only thing about an OCD or variant is that they might not get "dirty" enough for you, but then I think about your rig... You run your Marshalls pretty hot right with a bit of breakup or do you keep em pretty clean? If you run on with a lil bit of breakup or right on the edge the OCD will sound killer, if you run em clean you might find yourself wanting it to be dirtier. Then again you could always put that black eye boost (you still using one of those?) or any boost in front of it and have as much gain as you'll ever want.

my thoughts exactly on OCD...its just lacking that little bit on gain...through a clean amp that is. I use to use a fulltone fat boost with it and that was perfect together.
