Anyone use an EQD Monarch? I traded one of my Rats for one and haven't really had much time with it. Does it do low gain od well? I haven't had a chance to run full volume at practice yet and haven't found what I'm looking for out of it at bedroom volume.

which pedal is the ODB? I've never seen pics of that one. that overdrive sounds like nothing i've ever heard, it's like the grit is there but all those thin shitty frequencies you get with most drives is absent. totally sounds like amp dirt, i couldn't tell.

i hope you like the VTM man, it love mine and will be getting at least one more.

It's Nicks take on an OCD style circuit called the Ol' Dirty Bass, this is the first Version 2 which has an added mids control and I believe some more clipping and low cut options. And you nailed on the head what I told him last night. It's definitely the most amp like OD I've used, so smooth and no harshness at all. It does sound very different in the other clipping modes which I will outline in this weekends demo.

I do love it, i'm thinking in this setup it's gonna be an always on pedal. With the preamp (level) dimed it adds this perfect amount of grit on top of your tone and the repeats sit perfectly in the background where you might not notice them there but you notice when they aren't there.

*edit* Also wanted to note that this is the first dirt pedal I've ever used where maxing out the bass EQ was too much. Like ridiculous holy shit balls on bass this would destroy cabs too much low end. Guh we need a jizz smiley for shit like this.

mmmmmmmm... i will look into it.

i want that pedal just for the etching, i must admit. ODB is legend and the etching is awesome. never love gear just for the way it looks, so this might be a first one for me.

i'll ask Nick for a quote after i get some more mics and recording gear which i actually need

how are you liking the VTM?

I'm looking for a distortion with a tight and focused bass response that would be good for palm muting. I've been considering the Zvex BOR and a few different Tonebender clones. I used to have a Barber Trifecta, and the Tonebender setting on that one worked pretty well. Most ODs aren't dirty enough, and most fuzzes are too loose.

Any ideas?

get someone to clone a Tonebender MKI for you, that's definitely a fuzz, but it has a tightness that's closer to OD but is still ranchy as fuck if you want it to. i'd also look into a Buzzaround based on the original circuits, but i don't know if that's gonna be bassy enough for you, although with the volume you use it should be enough. i love my Buzzaround man, that circuit is fucking ace.

if you want to keep a distortion instead of substitute it for a fuzz i'd also look at The Elements, i'd love to have one of those.

Had it...its really nice...the gain is not overly compressed...so at low volume you might find that you need more gain or stack it for that full on gain sound. For low gain, its really really nice.

I love the original etching but I got mine in a plain black enclosure, as I'm doing another themed board...... :picard:

You might have to wait for the pre-order as I'm not sure if he has any extra boards at the moment, but it never hurts to ask!

I'm really digging the VTM. As a straight up delay its Meh, the repeats are very analog and dark, i.r; they get lost pretty easily. BUT there is an amazing built in saving grace, the preamp or level control! If you max it out it adds this really nice extra grit and presence to your dirt and then if you set the mix to where its unity volume on or off you get these really creepy barely there delay repeats that don't muddy up your tone and aren't quite audible but add an awesome psychoacoustic element that is awesome. This board is gonna be full on stoner doom tones (think bongzilla meets ufomammut meets electric wizard) and I'm gonna use it as an always on delay. so far the board is looking like:

TB modded CryBaby Wah > Dunwich Mosfet Boost > Dunwich ODB V.2 > Korg Pitchblack > Behringer VTM

Guys in Loma Prieta use OCDs into Ampeg V4s and get plenty of good chug so OCD or clones thereof are probably worth checking out.

Those dudes have great tone. The OCD is an awesome circuit and I really wish it worked better in drop f

i finally have a Proco Rat i'm not gonna have to get rid of again.

sometimes i miss playing around with them. it's probably not gonna make me want to give up the Melx V2 Fuzz but this circuit is just so fucking tasty in it's own right.

am i stupid in wanting 2 Quantum Mystic pedals??? one as spare...1 side says, have one just in case...other side says...if this one dies in the near future i can buy another one...if its way down the line and they are discontinued etc, i will find a some new shiny box that i will like anyway.

i've just noticed a second hand one for sale a long with a black forrest (which i'm buying) and thinking about bulk buy option!

Rat pedals are nice to have around, since I got my Volt Thrower though all rat gas is gone...

I have two, and the second one has come in really handy as a "hey try this" thing. Both bands bass players are ordering their own now. :excellent:

I love my Dunwich Wizard fuzz, but if I ever play live, I'd be afraid to use it for fear of it being stolen or beer being spilled on it since it would be hard to get another. I'm probably worrying too much because I'll probably never play live so whatever.

I'm getting some Dunwich GAS right about now. Good thing I'm on the list for a new amp in a year or so.

I mentioned to Nick that I may be interested in putting a footswitchable HM-2 circuit into the amp for fun. Would be cool.
