You need to go to better bars. Good dives with friendly bartenders and interesting regulars are the best.

Where everybody knows your naaaaaaame...

Used to do that, back in the day (as if three years or so is really that long). But even then, I've never been a really outgoing sort of guy, so if I wasn't there with a friend of mine who knew other people, it was mostly me drinking by myself at the bar. But these days I don't even really like to drink. The last few times I drank even like two or three drinks, my energy was noticeably lowered the day after.

Yeah right after I turned 21 I basically stopped drinking, got burnt out. I never really saw that coming.

I used to be super, super, super straight edge through all of high school and part of college. And then I turned 21 and loosened up. I don't drink all that often though. Maybe once or twice a month. I used to in college more often. Sometimes I just have a beer with dinner.

Everytime I take a break from the bar scene I end up going back out, having a good time, and lamenting the fact that I stepped away.

Definitely not the best decision for, you know, health. Or responsible finance.

Yeah I have to time any beer drinking so that it's on a day off because I always feel like shit afterward. Couldn't do it more than once a week at most.
Actually I think all beer is pretty nasty, but it's legal and common, so...

Was it a job that you loved? Was it what you wanted to do for the rest of your life? Otherwise just see it as a positive thing. It frees you up to focusing on retraining for or looking for your dream job. Remember that going to a job you don't like for the rest of your life is not living. Think positive dude.

I hate my job but I need the money and it funds all of my creative endeavors.

But fuck today has been so stupid. I tell them a thousand times, "hey I can do video and photo work for you if you need it" while I sit at my desk literally doing no work. They always say we'll see and now they need another video and are scrambling to hire some free lancer who they'll probably give $500 just to edit existing youtube videos together. I'm sitting here knowing I could do it all in two hours. I hate working in places with people mostly over 40 because they'll never take you seriously if you're one of the only younger employees.

If this is my life for two more months I'm just going to go on the craziest drug bender I can pull together until I just OD and die because that sounds like a lot more fun.

I would just do the video and then hand it to them. It's not like you're supposed to be doing anything else, and not like you've got anything to lose.

I want to so badly, the only problem is I need the approval of IT to install the software on my computer and I can't bring my own to work. Also I don't quite know what they want, just hear them talking about it.

I hate to go over people's heads but I'm probably going to email the CEO and the Director of my department with samples of my work. I already know they are just going to say keep calling people. Yeah that's right, hire me to check in with a customer who has one order of $400 and really does not care to to talk to me because they have actual work to do. Our company does $20-$30 million annually in revenue. I'm sure the office vending machines bring in more cash.

I'm just torn because I feel so bored and useless here and it's made my depression/anxiety much worse in that I'm pretty sure I have to go back to therapy. On the other hand they are paying me $2000 a month to basically sit on ILF and finding a new job isn't easy. Eventually I'm sure they'll have me doing stuff but I already know this place isn't for me. Also sitting for 9 hours a day is so bad for your health.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I just want to work at Jimmy John's again. I was up and on my feet, I had friends at work and I still made okay enough money where if I still work 40-50 hours a week I can still pay bills buy food and save.

Change dude. Do it ASAP. When a job is threatening your health to the point of depression/anxiety it's definitely time to move on. I had a shitty job I hated with a passion. Was causing me depression/anxiety like yourself. It lead to foam at the mouth like a rabid dog seizures and a complete mental breakdown. Not to mention an eventual heroin habit. Was only able to shake that in the last few years. I'm only really getting back on track now. But I'm virtually unemployable. it's no real life to be over 40, highly educated and yet still unemployable. I feel that life is passing me by. Like I'm a couple of drinks behind everyone else and I'm never going to catch up.

Wes Mantooth, all I can say is be a better friend to yourself. Do what is going to make you happy and healthy in the long run. Your still young enough to re educate if you have to. Go and get a better job before the one you have runs you into the ground. Don't let yourself become grease in the machinery of commerce. That's no life. :poke:

Whether it's creative work or "creative" work, when it crosses paths with corporate anything..... it just sucks. I feel you man. Iv'e wanted to get into tattooing for a loooooooong time, and every time I find a new shop to check out, a good 80% of the art is child's play to me, and all I can think is "you guys are getting payed MORE than me, just to do THAT?!" A story that maybe relates to you more: A coworker of mine interviewed for a job at the company's home office, to make videos for them. He's a film geek, has baddass gear, tons of editing experience. When he got to the interview, they told him "see so-and-so over there, she just finished editing her very first video!" Like it was something awesome. Of course he didn't get the position

However, I will second everything Kaoscill8r said, and try to take his advice myself. It takes me all of my two days off to get in the "groove" of being creative and productive like I would like to be, only to have to go back to dumbass retail-land and have my soul raped for another five days.
