It is certainly a growing market.
I really love old furniture and radios (deco and nouveau are pretty much my favorite preiods of design, with a little bit of ambitious Kommie Sputnik futurism in there to boot), and the walnut is beautiful, but not at that price tag. Gimme something I can put my beer on without having to think twice about a coaster.
Yeah. Sometimes I forget how much I don't care about how my gear looks because some of this shit looks so pristine. I remember the first time I took one of my cabs out to a gig and it rubbed against a doorway and there was some white and I was like well fuck me. But then I was like.. wait a minute, who gives a shit?
Don't get me wrong, those Dictator cabs look okay. I think a lot of us are suckers for stained designs but they don't blow me away. And the price point for some of these companies now doing it has gotten pretty high. Not saying it isn't justified because we can look at a Mesa 4x12 for a $1,000 or we can look at a Dictator for $1,200 or whatever. At this stage it's boiling down to aesthetics and what you want and there are a lot of part-time builders out there doing good work who have their companies on Facebook and whatever who will make a nice cabinet for quite a bit less. Ya know, SLK has his shit -- I don't know what he charges... maybe it's a grand a pop I don't know.
It used to be that these cabs were hyper-competetive in cost. Not the case anymore. For some companies at least.
thanks for the props and no I charge an average say the same 412 stained... 7-850. my tallboy boxes 8-1000 unless you getting a pair and then more like 1500-1700 for a pair. And I don't even get dealer prices on speakers. I have a extremely small profit margin cause I'm building them because I enjoy building them... not to make money. If I was to make real money at it as in to support myself. I'd probably be charging what dictator is charging.
what's funny is some people think some of my prices are high but these are always people who have never bought anything of quality in their damn life. and they are always the ones that want to have 500 worth of speakers and pay only 500 dollars for the cab and that.
Still SLK's cabs look cooler. So if you're spending that kind of money you at least get that aspect of it too.

If I was going to spend that kind of money I'd have 8 old Peavey cabs.

All it has is bottled water, plastic grocery bags and a half empty fire extinguisher that I set off in the house the last time I got drunk.
God damn. I'm from bumfuck NC and never heard of a pie safe. Probably because my mom never baked shit for anyone.
Right? I mean it might take a while, but gawdamn. the massive gear pile you could have for the price of that cab......
Our other guitarist just bought a full marshall stack. It's nice, it's new, sounds ok, under warranty. The amp sounds great and blends well with what we do, but I cant help but look at the peavey Butcher next to it I got for $140 or something and the $120 cab its on. I mean a full stack dsl or whatever it is costs what, $1500?

Yea when I started doing Mauler I was inspired by Emperor and here I already feel I surpassed their new incarnation. I'm glad I'm further up on the list by many feeling the same.
Also the tech I had my shit checked by has been trying to pawn off a modded b52 and a 1979 fender bassman 215 cab on me for 500. I almost want to go and buy it just so I don't have my phone damn blowing up with texts about it. Buy it and immediately flip the shit.
