ShaolinLambKiller wrote:It was just such a huge shame, made me miss playing with anyone else ever I played with. Any band I jumped in on with playing bass, all i needed was the tuning they were in and I just picked up the song as we went, 2nd time round I had it down by watching the guitar player, and by the 3rd time I'm adding stuff to it. if it's something from scratch oh all types of shit would come to me. it's like okay this is the root but I can do all this other bullshit and it'll sound even more amazing so I did.

This is how all my experience with "jamming" and auditioning with strangers has gone. If I have access to songs ahead of time I learn them and if they start throwing new songs at me on the spot, I usually can just pick up the basics by watching the guitarist and listening to the drummer easily. Then after a couple runs through I can start throwing in fills and harmonies and all that. If I'm in the reverse positions, trying someone out or jamming with someone who is trying to pick up on what I'm playing, I get really frustrated if they know what notes to play but can't seem to pick up the general feel of the riffs at all. I feel like that's one of those things either you have it or you don't. It might be possible to get better at picking it up with a lot of practice, but I don't want to be the person they practice on.

4 WGS ET65 (2 are for Matt, the other guitarist in the band) and 4 WGS 55hz Reapers. As if I wasn't already excited for these new cabs to come in. These pretty bitches are just begging to have some fuzz blasted through 'em.

Naga Viper before anything is always a winner. Dirts I've paired awesomely with NV in the last few days: Civil War Big Muff, Cream Puff, Iron Pig, Toecutter, Black Forest, Pharaoh. In front of two Cream Puffs at the same time was especially zippy!

Cool Conky, I've been wanting to try out both of those WGS models in my 4x12.

Cool Conky. Interested to hear what you think of the reaper as I have been thinking of getting a 1x12 and maybe putting that in there for my apartment. And if the et65 are anything like the et90 then you have a great speaker there. I really like my et90s.

I went on a job interview yesterday just to see what's out there. The guy said the position pays 50k. I guess the 5+ years experience in my field didn't mean much.
The people I know who seem to be making the most money are the ones with only college or even high school degrees.
Most people I know with masters or law degrees are earning less.
Anyways, not to get off track too much, but this has really been getting at me lately.
Times like these I'm thankful for doom music.

I'm beginning to believe that. Most of my buddies from high school without degrees are doing as well as I am, plus they got a seven year jump on getting set up while I was in school. And let's not even talk about student loans - I don't have any, but my wife has more than enough for the both of us

I literally have nobody to jam with anymore, but my non-musician friends are all endlessly fascinated and confused by my pedalboard.

You learn the rules until they're second nature, so you can forget them and play by instinct. It's good for developing your ear and giving you a strong foundation of what "feels right".

Yep. I love that I learned a lot of theory as a kid. I also love never thinking about that shit when I play now.

Black Arts Mark has an OS Emperor 2x12 w/ 55hz Reapers that he uses in a lot of his demos that just sounds great so I got the idea for wanting to try them. Skip says good things about the ET65 and I dig the Weber 65s in my cab so I imagine these are gonna work out great.

You and me both. Petras said everything was on schedule and I'll have them before we hit the road on the 4th. I'm fucking ready.

I'll be sure to record some clips of it next to my Emperor. I know I'm gonna be tempted to run a dual rig with the Matamp into the Emperor and the Soldano into the 6x12. Completely defeats the purpose of getting this cab but I bet it would rule.

Once it comes in it will be filled with the 55hz Reapers on top and bottom and two ET65s in the middle.

Speakers look awesome Conkers! I'll be interested to hear your thoughts since it sounds like you have had some similar ones to compare them to.

Corey man, hang in there. I'm kinda amazed that you still don't have people banging on the door to play with you. Your comments on the theory thing are dead on. You know your shit! The recordings you do sound killer.
Maybe it's the expectation that they not suck that's the issue? Play shittier when you first get together and build them up from there? You might be intimidating them? I dunno man. I'm as confused as you are because you seem to fit all the check marks for awesome bandmate criteria.

Treble boosters.
I have to echo Darren on the Naga Viper. My only complaint is it could have just a tad more volume on tap. My solution is to pair it in it's loop with the elements set to clean boost. so now I can have a more defined sound for faster bits or can stomp it on with the elements engaged and instant cutting lead tone for noodly bits. I'm really thrilled with it and it's been working it's way into more and more songs.

Which brings me to my next question for DR Brain Trust, whats a good simple clean boost with massive volume capability? I know that the more you slam the amp you are going to get break up, but what are some options that can yield the most volume with least distortion?
