Heard these guys for the first time when I saw them on the Mastodon/Gojira tour a little while ago. Very rad. Made me want to drink beer and go skateboard... and I'm fucking terrible at skating.

YES! I saw them on that tour last week, and they gave a headliner-worthy performance. Honestly, after them and Gojira tearing things up, I was pretty done by the time Mastodon hit the stage.

After he took of his ABSOLUTELY BADASS owl mask thingy, the singer spent most of the set right up in the front row's faces, which was pretty awesome. And he was completely unafraid to play air guitar and air drums during the big parts... I'm not gonna lie, I love that in a metal singer.

Hell yes! It was also awesome that all of their lyrics are in Norwegian... and nobody in the audience minded! There are times when I wonder in passing what it is that I'm singing along to, and how badly I'm mangling the word/sounds I'm trying to match.

They're mostly singing about mead (mjød), awesome viking stuff and mythology. It has actually been uncommon for Norwegian artists to sing in Norwegian until the last couple of years. Guess the indie culture opened up the idea that our language can be cool. Anyway, great band, seen them live a couple of times and it was great. Love the energy and stage presence. What's weird though is that alot of people on the Norwegian guitar forum I'm a part of seem to dislike them alot. Think they be jelly

What really gets me going with Kvelertak is the way they fuse a whole bunch of metal/rock styles so seamlessly - it's not many bands who would try a chord progression/groove that would work for AC/DC and then layer black metal vocals on top, throw in an Allman Brothers riff in the break, and then do an outro that's almost Smashing Pumpkins-y... and make it feel like a cohesive whole.

Yeah, I can sort of understand why you wouldn't like them if you were of a certain disposition. A lot of their more visible influences are a bit "radio rock" and if they didn't smosh everything together so amazingly skillfully I might find it all a bit on the nose. But they do pull it off so I fucking love them for it.
