I dig this, I've been listening to and exploring a lot of slower, more groovy, less tech oriented death metal lately. It's got me starting to work on writing some death-doom that is more about being grimy and heavy than slow and melancholy.

I think it's ok to wear your influences on your sleeve as long as you have more than one haha. I think it's more important to make music that is good, rather than than unique, technical, progressive, etc. those are all good things but people loose sight of just making good old fashioned quality tunes. See- about every prog band ever.

apparently Beneath Oblivion was robbed last night in Little Rock. here's their gear if you happen to come across it

"Attention Little Rock: our trailer was stolen last night with all of our gear at a Holiday Inn. Please keep an eye out for these custom 6x12 cabs, Peavey 5150, Laney GHL 100, Eden WT500 with Furman power conditioner in an SKB case along with our Premiere APK 5 piece with a PDP black snare, Tama hardware, SKB cases, and Sherwood hardware case. We also had a white Squire P bass, white Fender Tele, Warwick Corvette standard with passive pickups, Gibson Les Paul Studio, Black Ibanez, all our merch, an SWR bass head with with power conditioner and rack tuner in an SKB case."

Many thanks to Jeff from RWAKE for his help in apprehending this tweeker in Little Rock, not even 24 hours after the robbery, trying to sell one of the stolen basses. You can see him being led away in handcuffs from the Guitar Center. We just got word that the trailer (belonging to Fister) and "most" of our gear has been recovered. Thanks to everyone for your help in spreading the word, and helping us make this a happy ending. That being said, we're still out a few thousand dollars in merch money, travel costs, etc... Instead of straight donations, we're going to have a new tee design up today to help recoup some of the losses, and if we get our merch back, we'll have the tour design, and hoodies for sale-

I'm okay with bands sounding just like certain bands that inspired me. There are never enough Bolt Thrower wannabes.

I dunno man, I just feel like if you're putting music out there you have a certain responsibility to make it sound, you know, different enough that it's worth someone's time.

Of course, I've made some seriously shitty music that doesn't sound like a lot of other people's stuff, so.

I don't think so. I think if you are putting 100% of your heart in creating something even if it's paying tribute basically to your heros... if it's well done I don't give a should about it being different enough.

Like for example... Warmaster out of TX.... yea sounds straight up like Bolt Thrower... but that's exactly what all those guys love. and it shows in the music.

You can tell when a band is just copying other bands hoping for that same success like Kataklysm's in the Arms of Devestation or Morbid Angel's last album and it turned out fucking horribly. And bands that play in the same style because they honestly love to play that so much they just sound like them.

But maybe some people can't tell the difference that's on them.



And there are tons of death metal bands of the old school varity that just lay down excellent tunes that aren't just a string of blast beats and tremlo pickings.

Oh and yea don't mind a cover live, cause yea I've done some live more so because everyone else in the band pretty much out voted me on doing so. my skramz band mainly would do a cover for say for someone's birthday or something special like that other than that they weren't there more than a show or 2. But as far as recording... don't bother recording it. I'm going to skip it. the only cover I remember enjoying was Novembre's cover of Kate Bush's Cloudbursting cause it sounded just like the original but had some very nice orchestration added. basically made it less digital more actual musician's peforming it, and Ann-Mari Edvardsen from The Third and the Mortal just was spot on vocally.

I haven't heard any other one that made me give a shit enough to listen to it, nevertheless more than once.

So I left my phone cord inside the other day and had to listen to the radio on the way to work. Normally, this isn't that problematic since I can generally enjoy some classic rock, but every now and then I switch over to the 'rock' stations and hear something horrendous. This, my dudes, is quite possibly the worst and most offensive cover song I've ever heard. It makes me want to kill everyone.
