Does it sound good?
Are you going to be using it with dirt? What kind?
Is the way the preamp sounds important to you?

I use the rhythm channel (the "clean" non master volume one) with pedals as my main guitar rig for recording demos. I think it's the bee's knees. The only bad thing I have to say about it is that I wish it was just that channel, since I never use all the other stuff. The power scaling is a nice feature too.

Woke up to lots of good news today. Our 6x12s are shipping today and we are a part of a podcast with a bunch of bands from all over. Only 3 songs in but it fucking rips so far.

Funny you ask about AORs in the same question. I've been told that they sound VERY similar in many respects. At the very least, they both borrow from the JCM800. The Carvin will have a slightly different response from the power section when turned off, but if it's anything like my mate's VTM they should be in the same ball park. I highly considered getting one for a while. I also ABed both my AORs with the VTM, and unless you maxed out the master volume, you could cop most of the same tones from one amp to another. If you're concerned about the power section, I believe the Carvin's can also be easily rebiased for EL34s.
It''l likely be down to what features you really want. I personally think a graphic EQ would be rad.

Killer sleeper amp. To be clear, there are a few variations -- my bud has the 6l6 version.
The gain channel can seriously nail the first HoF albums' tone. That EQ rules.
The clean channel takes pedals nicely and has a nice, subtle mid bump. So tasty.

Dude, they rule hard.
Seriously, The Sleer CRUSHED tonight. Our dude Tim had massive low end, and the band's tone was balanced nicely all around. Hollow body tele into Peavey Valve King (what was the main dirt pedal?) made it super clear that big tone isn't dependent on boutique amps.
KHEMMIS. Doomed heavy metal. DECEIVER out 11/19/21 on Nuclear Blast.
GLACIAL TOMB. Misanthropic death/black/sludge. S/t debut out now on Gilead Media.
Good deals with: Ancient Astronaught, conky, crohny, D-Day, Corey Y, ryan summit, tons more here and on HCFX under this username

Influences being predominantly Young and In The Way, Wolves In The Throne Room, Full Of Hell, Genghis Tron, His Hero Is Gone, etc... Currently the line up is me on guitar with an octave pedal/bass vi when I have the cash to get one, a drummer, and my roommate on vocals. We want to add a synth/keys player as opposed to another stringed instrument, but I don't know how to write parts for that. I'm currently doing an approximation with an Ipad, some apps and my pedalboard.
If you're gonna have a dedicated synthesizer player or want to get some stuff for recording, there are some great cheap options out there these days for analog. The aforementioned MS-20 Mini, the MiniBrute or MicroBrute, the MonoTribe, etc...Little Phattys can be found cheap these days, too, and sound cool but are a little harder to get really noisy, if that is what you want to do.
You can get little noise boxes or just run a regular synth through a bunch of distortion and delay. It will yield you most of the sounds that you could want.
When we booted our noise/synth guy out of Indian, we decided we didn't want to add another person. If you want to spend a lot of money and go running down an endless wormhole, you could consider a modular, which is what I did. I have a Eurorack-format modular. To control it, I bought a module that will interface pedals. I use an expression pedal and one of the Boss two switch pedals that has the momentary option. It was an expensive setup but it was the best I could do with Indian for something to control with my feet. I tried to go the Ableton route but I discovered I am far too stupid to do software and programming. It ultimately would have required the band playing to a click track to work the best, too.
And hey, a modular with a bunch of cables sticking out of it and flashing lights is way cooler than a fucking laptop on stage.

Eh, it's not his thing, but awesome that he stuck it out and really enjoyed it.
First show out of the way, the cherry is popped. Nerves are overcome, now it's time destroy some shit. I can't wait for Sunday.

His Valveking is awesome. Just thick and clean. (Same way I run my preamp.) His main dirt is the Bogner Ecstasy Red.
Thanks for coming out Ben. I was glad to see you there.

Yeah it seems like they're amazing for the money. Which brands do you like?
grecos and univoxes.
they don't even need to be the set neck ones to be amazing.
my Greco is a pancake body, damn near semi hollow, bolt on, with a bent as fuck pot metal stoptail. but ill be damned if that's not one of the best guitars ive ever played or owned. ebony board also

I should've never sold that univox gimme.
