The Doom Room: ILF Edition

Ok dudes, as some of you might remember I'm next in line for the new range of GT120s (I thought I'd rub that one in again), but it's going to have to be cranked balls to the wall to get dem sleep tones, so I expect I'll be needing some fuzz and shit.

Can anyone recommend me some pedals to have a look at which will compliment it? It's been a while since I've used fuzz pedals because the AOR can stand by itself y'see. I've literally only got a RAT reissue right now.

There basically good for a lot of things assuming they are using the early 70s schematic and not some other iteration of this design. The Dopesmoker and Windhand tones are really hard on that amp I will say, those both involve maxing the amp out then hitting it with a pedal in front.

I generally run my clones of this amp fairly clean, the volume knob runs out of clean headroom around 9 o-clock or so, its gets clipped fairly fast. I usually prefer FF/FF derivative designs into it. I developed the Cthulhu Fuzz and FuzzThrone using this amp.

I really don't know, I've been out of the pedz game for a while so I'm looking for suggestions of what is currently available more than "TELL ME WHAT MAH TONE SHOULD BE". Fairly sure I don't want anything muff based this time though.

I need something thick and dynamic without being overbearing, I tend to prefer simplicity and I tend not to like stacking.

I may be biased but you simply cannot go wrong with The Ape Blaster Fuzz by Electric Heat.

The first time I saw Metallica was the day my dad died. Weird day. They were killer. The second time was in '91 or '92. They were touring on that black album which was strictly cornpone. I went anyway because they were still one of my all time favorites at that point. About a dozen buddies and I all ate shrooms and acted like dorks on the front row of the mezzanine or parquet or whatever is the first level off the ground. I noticed there was an awful lot of floor space and got the bright idea that we just charge over the rail to the floor (10 feet?)and run up front and rage like professionals. I gave the signal and flew over the rail. When I hit the floor I was the only one there. FUCKING WEAKLINGS! So I ran like 20 feet and got rolled up by the BSU football team which was 'security' at most of the events back then. I listened to One outside and since it was never a favorite I wandered off to trip more.

I was all set to suggest a Colorsound One-Knob/Meathead/Ritual, and I think I'll still do that. Great circuits.

The FF and color sound suggestions are on point. Easy, no thrills, non-stop onslaught. I.E; perfect for throwing in front of that kind of amp.

I listened to the Ape Of God so many times my roommate has asked me not to play the second album because the intro fucks with his tinnitus. But Brian Cook is on there, so I am really exited about this

Question. So there are portions of our vocals that are very quiet and Robby was using an lpb-1 as a vox booster for those portions. We're trying to find an option so that he won't have to do anything to have a constant level. Any ideas?

For live or studio use? TC Electronics makes a bunch of really cool vocal pedals with XLR in / out, they got all your standard guitar pedal styles... boost, distortion, delay, modulation, reverb etc....

We're looking for something as an always on to level the highs and lows. So he doesn't have to worry about it. Because for all the low vox parts hee also has to stomp guit pedals.

IIRC Cook didn't have much of a say in the writing of that record, so the OMG makes more sense.

I think you'll want maybe some kind of compression, maybe?

I'm digging the shit out of it but I feel for your roommate. That intro is fucking annoying in my opinion, but the rest of the album is fucking great.

I gotcha. Usually I would say the typical sound engineer response..... That's called learning how to use a mic, get close for low volume vocals and step back for high pitched / louder vocals.

MAN I DID MY TIME

Anyways you guys know I'm not Mr Salesmanship all day in here so let me give the pitch one time. The Ape Blaster has two nasty agressively clipped fuzz stages followed by a massive mosfet boost that beats the fuck out of your amp. So it's brutally dirty, hits the input as hard as anything ever hit an amp and yet maintains uncanny string clarity for all your fancy chords. Lastly it's not a clone with a couple of capacitors cleverly swapped. Oh it's nothing fancy or particularly brilliant mind you, I'm a total cromag in this shit, but it's not a Muff, FF, Colorsound or any of the other popular Doomclones. It sounds FILTHY with a Matamp/real Orange. There.

I decided I don't like woodworking and offered a worktrade to my buddy. He finishes my Telemaster body and I build him any drive pedal he wishes. Sadly he wished for a Klon :0( But he just sent me a picture of the body thus far:

My oldest dog is now all fragile and sick so I hang with her just about 24/7. I've been taking custom work and busting clones to fill the days. Here be a Sonic Titan I built up for myself to compare to a schematic Nick drew up ages ago. I thought it turned out neat looking.

Yeah he just played the parts. Regardless, the more Cook/Turner the better.
