Anyways you guys know I'm not Mr Salesmanship all day in here so let me give the pitch one time. The Ape Blaster has two nasty agressively clipped fuzz stages followed by a massive mosfet boost that beats the fuck out of your amp. So it's brutally dirty, hits the input as hard as anything ever hit an amp and yet maintains uncanny string clarity for all your fancy chords. Lastly it's not a clone with a couple of capacitors cleverly swapped. Oh it's nothing fancy or particularly brilliant mind you, I'm a total cromag in this shit, but it's not a Muff, FF, Colorsound or any of the other popular Doomclones. It sounds FILTHY with a Matamp/real Orange. There.

So I'm kind of gassing for a third dirtbox at the moment. Something loose and grainy and pushes the low end. Doesn't need a ton of control. I've seen some Fuzzhugger Arc Flash demos that are in the ballpark, and the Geiger Counter civilian issue has got my eye again with sheer output and sample rate reduction. Plus I know most of what it can do.

Any other suggestions?

Ya, I had the full sized version for a while, but it wasn't worth the cost for the amount I used it; pretty sparsely actually. I played all kinds of NIN sounding stuff whenever it was on. I pretty much just messed with the sample rate on the 3 or 4 settings I really liked. Maybe I'll just wait for one to pop up second hand. I have a PM-7 on my board, so the sample rate/filtery stuff would be just be icing on the cake. Something like the Arc Flash would be cheaper though.

TAD was one of my favorite bands in the 90's. The band that whenever people brought up grunge/Seattle/SubPop or anything like that I'd get all excited and say "Oh, do you like TAD" and they'd look at me like I had a dick growing out of my forehead. I bought the DVD of the documentary when it came out and had a viewing party with one of my buddies who also loves them. That's what we bonded over when we were in the same punk band around 1999/2000, we were both the only people we knew who knew who they were and loved the band. Him because he used to tape all the videos off Beavis and Butthead and watch them over and over again and the Wood Goblins video was on there and I found used copy of Inhaler in a local shop in high school and started trying to find everything I could from them. Kurt Danielson, along with Rob Wright from NoMeansNo, were the biggest influence on my bass playing and tone for my first decade of playing music.

There was the one run, but it seems like there's others floating around. I'm guessing he might make them on request every now and then.

I imagine he handles it on a case by case basis. Plus, pretty much anyone who would ask him to build one would be from the old doom room and 'know' him from way back.

I work on it but I'm a generally slow person. I have had a bass fuzz in the works for some time and the distortion/fuzz based on the Kowloon Walled Bunny that I mentioned awhile back is about to come out of the briefcase and take pedal form. Nick sent me a rad looking schem for a Sonic Titan variant and I've been fooling around with secret shit lately too.

Okay now I'm blushing over here! I love how that Ape sounds with your crazy 12 string and those cyclopean ampstax. I'm pretty sure your setup is the biggest rig I've seen it hooked up to. Actually you may be in competition with Tad. I think he runs a vintage Model T clone, a modern Model T RI and some Hovercraft head all at the same time now. One thing I like about the one you have is that it has the old graphics with the really big gorilla face, but you keep it under glass so it's not all scratched to FUCK like mine. I wish I could make this CFA show on Saturday. I was thinking of riding down with Scott and them but I can't shake these other plans.

But they're good guys and I don't want to screw them up.

Verellen Meat Smoke Preamp...tell me about it...i know a few people have had it on here...Skip???

Could it replace dirt pedals??

A Verellen preamp pedal is truly a killer item to have. As you now know I have Skip's old Skyhammer. It can do some fine fine tube dirt but not like transistorized pedals. I sold the ridiculous Garnet slave I was running with it and I don't find any use for it with any of the amps that have normal preamps but it's fun for recording and does enough cool stuff to set it apart from the GTO that I feel it's worth keeping. I've fooled around with several Meatsmoke pedals and they are righteous in every way for bass. In front of a 'real' amp, poweramp or as the sweetest DI box in town. The actual Meatsmoke amp and these preamp pedals are the coolest stuff Verellen does imo

So, erm, how does the Ape Blaster sound on bass?

If you like really high gain fuzz with bass guitar I think it'd do nicely. I however don't like that. And if I'm being honest I have to say I don't like the ABF for bass much. Then again I don't do well stacking it with anything but Druden (Parker/misterstomach's band) will blow your face off. So your mileage may vary?

I should probably get the LSTR just to round it all off.

I'm not a fan of fiddling with ge stuff but I sure have a bunch of ge transistors around and I think I kinda want some of that dumb ge money. I saw some alarming shit on facebook where one guy is going to sell his dumb Tonebender clone for $500 to buy his buddy's dumb Tonebender clone by the same builder for $500 because it has some dumb 'Hunts cap' in it whereas the one he already has contains what I can only assume is some lesser capacitor that siphons all his capacitor mojo. Seems a feller like myself could do well in a world like that.

I think the Skyhammer pre would be really cool...my thinking on it was to use it as a pedal in front of my Super bass...but the meatsmoke although sounds pretty good doesn't go as high gain as i want it.

The LSTR is great...i had it before as part of the sarcophagus, which I'm not sure why i sold now...but i do remember it didn't get used as much as the pharaoh side...buying it again would be more of a want than a need. Also all this AP talk is getting me gas again for that pedal. Im absolutely skint right now, but i might hit you up in the new year...or pick one up on my travel through the US.
