As cool as this is for Indian, and I mean that it really is... doesn't it feel backhanded that Bodycount is at number 10?

There is some stellar music in this list. Stuff that I enjoyed thoroughly. I think many in the Doom Room loved the Indian record. Many of us agree on Old Man Gloom and Yob. The new Behemoth record wasn't bad but didn't get me like some of the others.

One of the albums talks about the merits of a member being in Slipknot and basically states that it is FFOM.

And while I did't HATE Once More 'Round the Sun it doesn't deserve a place ahead of some of those records.

To speak in your review and say that a "doom" record was a standout amongst Pallbearer and YOB and then not even put Pallbearer on the list and then give Slipknot a hand job just seems backwards to me.



I think that Will (humancertainty) and the folks in Indian should be proud of this accomplishment. The accolades are great nonetheless. I mean -- it's probably weird to be Pallbearer and have a "Top 50 Record on NPR" alongside hip hop artists Run the Jewels (FUCKING AWESOME RECORD) and weird drug fused country artist Sturgill Simpson (another cool record) in the same list as you but what the fuck ever, right.

I don't know what metal publications are respected around here outside of just our personal opinions but whatever.

I've never paid much attention to those kind of lists. I think I've said it in interviews before, but I don't feel like the attention of the mainstream press is any more or less validating than accolades from the underground. I do find it interesting that mainstream press like Rolling Stone and NPR are paying attention to this kind of music. Having known Mike and the various incarnations of Yob since the beginning, it's strange to see them receive the accolades that they're currently getting. It's well deserved. I'm sure it's strange for anyone into this stuff that we're all into. I know how strange it is for Mike.
I don't mean to sound ungrateful or facetious. A lot of bands put out records this last year and frankly, a lot of bands worked a lot harder than Indian did this last year. I've been listening to underground music since 1990. Never had a Rolling Stone subscription. Never really read any of it except for Hunter S. Thompson's stuff from the '70s. I understand how big they are but they've just never been on my radar.
It's been a strange few years recently for this stuff we all do.

I think Rolling Stone, became irrelevant, finally realized they were irrelevant, and are now attempting to become relevant.
That said, it still says a lot about the album to get mentioned there. It means that someone along the line who knows, said "this is something that cannot be overlooked."
I don't think it is possible to listen to From all purity and not be impacted by it. It's just soul crushing. The fact that Rolling Stone thinks it will help them sell magazines is nothing to be ashamed of. That album's a beast.

I certainly wasn't aiming to come off as prick-ish with my comment. It's awesome that some publications have hired people who at least have a finger to the pulse on some of this shit. From All Purity is a fucking ride. It's the type of music that would give my wife anxiety if I put it on in the car while on a long trip. It's heavy as hell and elicits a pretty heavy emotional response. Definitely a killer record.

Very nice! Will you dudes be in Madison anytime soon? Missed a bunch of cool shows this summer. Sucks being broke with no car! But at least I play in a band so I got that going on for me? We started very OM-ish with slow, mellow, slightly overdriven jams but as soon as we began writing stuff it got heavier but with a similar vibe. We might be welcoming a dude on keys this weekend too. Hoping to start playing shows this Spring.
