Its nice to see some Monotribe love. I play my monotribe more than any of my other synths. I think its from being portable and its really not a pain in the ass to break out and play. I really love the sounds I get out of it hooking it up to my pedal board.

The Microbrute is cool, especially if you don't mind just having a single VCO. Like with the Monotribe. If you're considering a Beats check out the new Akai Rhythm Wolf, too. Now, I can't recommend it. They are having scaling issues with it and I wouldn't buy anything made by the current Akai. But, if it worked as it should, it would be awesome for the money.

Ya know, me too. It is certainly not the best synth or groovebox. But, there is something about the Monotribe... Mine actually looks like this, now.

I couldn't bond with my monotribe and sold it on. Luckily the MS-20 mini was announced a few months later and I bought this fella instead. I might buy another monotribe, but only to play it through the MS-20.

I think the Monotribe has been discontinued, take that into account if you want another one . I sold mine recently, didn't use it enough. If I want complex analog I use my modular and if I want tiny sequenced analog I use my Volcas. But it's a great little machine, though.

I blew it. I bought a Microbrute yesterday using the AMS 3 month payment plan. I even spent the extra $30 to get a shiny blue one! I couldn't wait for tax season to get a synth. Should be here tomorrow and I'm losing my shit. I need to hide it from the GF until the holidays are over

Very cool setup! Is it entirely used to process external input (I don't see any sound sources)? Also, do you feel any overkill with an MMG and an Optomix? I'm looking at getting one or the other, but I feel like I'll inevitably have both...

There's a Make Noise STO in there that I use as the base for my synth voice. I also use the Disting in VCO mode or one of the alternate CSD programs for the Nebulae when I need a second or third oscillator. The Disting's VCO is actually pretty nice. I don't think the Nebulae's programs really track as well at 1V/oct but it has a wonderful polyphonic oscillator that is amazing for drones. Although I haven't really explored all of them in depth.

A lot of it is processing external sounds though. I can make some pretty cool drones with the Nomad (shortwave radio) and I love glitching out tracks and recorded sounds through the Nebulae.
I'm starting to think I might want to switch out the Nebulae for the upcoming Music Thing Modular Radio Music and some other granular processor like the Phonogene or the upcoming Mutable Instruments Clouds; the Nebulae's granular section leaves a little to be desired.

As for overlap between the MMG and the Optomix, I really don't think there's that much and feel like my system benefits from having both. They're similar circuits, both derived from the QMMG, but they're different parts of the QMMG. I really enjoy the strike inputs on both. You can achieve some really interesting rhythmic patches with them. That being said I am thinking about selling my MMG because I find myself using the Ripples much more often. I think I might end up switching out the MMG and STO for a MI Braids as I feel that would be a lot more useful in my small system. Although I would miss the overdriven sound of the MMG if I did sell it. I just want to wait until sometime in the new year to make any of these decisions

I just got my Microbrute and I messed around with it for about an hour. Holy shit I love this thing! So many good sounds! The only drawback is lack of presets, because it will most likely stay on one setting if (when) I use it live, and it's hard to choose just one! This thing is incredible. I'm hooked on synths.

The nice thing with the microbrute is that it has a mini patchbay... Don't forget to use (and abuse) it .
Just do not plug an output into an output (though the circuits of the brute might be protected to avoid problems with that, would make sense...).

I got mine readily built and tested, with the specific filter board I wanted, for the price of parts and a pint of beer from a local DIY synth guy who has the skills and time I don't.

Is it cool?
Yeah, it's cool. Neat preset sounds to start with and then lots of possibilities based on the wavetables, there are quite a few of those if You're into that. And the arpeggiator and sequencer - especially if You're into odd time stuff - can be all kinds of fun. But what really impressed me is the gnarly overdriven (and loud) Polivoks filter (the red Shruthi version). Badass!

Easy to edit?
Ummm yeah weeeeeell, if You study the manual (http://mutable-instruments.net/shruthi1/manual) You shouldn't get lost menu diving. A lot smarter thing to operate than some big digital synth workstations I've tried.

Too bad Mutable instruments slimmed down their production line and though Shruthi-1 is their best selling product, some of the rad filter options seem to come in very limited numbers. If You see one, I'd say jump on it, shouldn't be too hard to flip if it wasn't Your thing.
