Electric Wizard though? Holy fuck those first few are insane. The first one I heard was Come My Fanatics and I knew it was a permanent life changer within a minute. It's still one of my all time favorite albums in the history of albums.

Those foam speakers suck so bad. They're weak in every possible way. I saw a guy on CL selling a Fender Bantam Bass who had politely removed the entire baffle and stuck a real speaker in there. That'd be the way to do it.

My mom, like Skip's wife has no hobbies outside of motherly action. She's retired now and it's getting really intense. I try to push her toward something artistic but it's all lost on her. My brother is all white collared out and he obviously does real well. I do fine too but I look like the homeless so mom has decided that I always need all this help. It's very nice of her to come up to Seattle and buy me stuff but I don't need it and when I try to stop her she gets butthurt and then I'm the jerk. I don't know why I'm telling you this. It was definitely sparked by Skip's situation and I feel for you bro!

My instagram homies probably saw this but I'll put it here too. I believe he intends to offer a bundle of this along with the 'Prince amp' (which still has no real name). They sound fucking great together.

And I love cities. Any way you slice it humanity is just a dirty fucking scab on this planet. Just a horde of little waste generators and vandals as far as Good Ol' Mother Earth is concerned. So let's just keep our dirty inconsiderate asses in the spots we've already destroyed and let the animals have nature okay? Okay. I love where I'm at and put Portland in a very close second place. I've never been to NYC but for megacities I loved the shit out of Tokyo and London and I'd live in either in a second if I wasn't all deeply entrenched here. I think the only place I could go that isn't Seattle and fall into the kind of life I have here (which I enjoy greatly!) would be Portland.

After AW hit the streets Kyuss became one of the biggest thorns in my side ever. Why? Because fuckers hear my shit and think I must know/love/wanna talk endlessly about Kyuss. I fuckin hate Kyuss. They used to be advertised in Thrasher so I assumed they must be good. NOPE. After our very first set out in public this dude came up and wanted to get all long winded on Kyuss and I told him I'd never paid any attention to Kyuss because I don't like them and do you know what he did? He said "OH FUCK YOU" with this disgusting incredulous tone and walked away.

Man, it's been a minute. I missed this place.

Fucking LOVE NYC. If I don't stay in Denver, I want to live in NYC. I go up there a few times a year, and I always have an absolute blast. You just gotta avoid the tourist traps. The heavy music scene there, particularly in Brooklyn, is incredible right now.

Hanging out in Eastern PA for the week with my lady's family. I have put on at least 5 lbs in the last three days. I have no doubt that it will only get better (or worse for my arteries) in the coming days. Steaks tonight, and steaks are never a bad thing. Tomorrow = ham, turkey, a zillion veggies, twice baked potatoes, and a couple of bottles of bourbon.

We (Khemmis) finished up recording with Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (Cattle Decapitation, Cephalic Carnage, Nightbringer, etc) right before I left. We have a super secret guest vocalist coming in next week, and then we hope to have rough mixes in around mid January. I am super pumped to share it with you dudes -- it definitely sounds a LOT different than the 3 song EP we put out in 2013, even the one song we rerecorded ("The Bereaved"). It may seem humblebraggy, but I am crazy proud of this album.

Also, holy SHIT paying the premium cost to record in a legit studio for X number of days, rather than trying to knock everything out as quickly as possible with hourly rates hanging over yer head, is THE way to go. No "oh, it's good enough, just leave it." If a lead line wasn't clean, we got to do it again. If my voice cracked when gettin' all growly, I could take a few minutes, drink some honey and/or whiskey, and then give it another go after a bit of resting. Plus, Dave rules. If any of you Colorado-area cats are looking to do a legit album, I cannot recommend him strongly enough. It ain't cheap, but it's worth it.

I sorta bought two guitars, too. One is a 1981 Ibanez Musician that was beat to hell but the neck is straight and the frets still have quite a bit of life in 'em. I'm going to strip off the poly, sand out any gouges, and then refinish it. I'm thinking about oil rather than poly or nitro, though. Anyone have thoughts/experience with this?

I also accidentally bought a Gibson Gothic Les Paul, sans hardware, for a ridiculously low amount. I didn't think my bid would win, but it did. Now to play Dr. Frankenstein and throw in pickups of my choice. So, the BC rich is on the chopping block as soon as I'm home, and I'll have to decide between the Gothic Les Paul and my Fender TC90. The Fender is rad, but I haven't played it in ages and it's so tonally different from my other Les Paul that it doesn't work well as a backup for live shows.

Finally, I decided that I hated having a pedalboard that was covered in gray carpet. The PedalPads are pretty solid boards, but that carpet is gross. I thought it would be simple enough to clean it off, sand it, stain it, and seal it up with a few coats of semi-gloss poly. It wound up taking close to 40 hours of work with disassembling, stripping the carpet, scraping/sanding off the industrial (!!!!) adhesive they used, staining, sealing, and reassembling it. But, whatever, I'm pleased with the end result. I want to replace the chrome hardware with black hardware, but who knows when I'll get around to that? I also need to finish soldering my own cables and rewiring the whole thing.

That pedal pad looks nice. I would just be afraid of all the scuffs it might get, but that adds to the history of it. It can go too far though like with matt pike's emperor cabs that are totally beaten to shit.

I am actually working on the one I have laying around so I can finally sell it off. I need to put new screws for one of the boards on the inside as they came loose and I am ripping off all the old velcro. Fuck that shit. I put the locking 3m velcro on there a long time ago and that shit is a bitch to peel off. I didn't put it on in strips but instead for each individual pedal so it looks all scattered. I have extra laying around so I'm just going to cover the boards to make it look nicer. Luckily the carpet isnt all nasty. I'm much happier with the pedal train.

I've been battling it out with my mother all week to where I'm now thinking that separating my ties with her might actually be necessary. She has gone off the deep end and may be certifiably nuts. It's been such an emotional roller coaster for me and I truly feel like it's not fair for me to have to deal with anymore.

D and Skip obviously have different situations but I just wanted to chime in and say family is fucking cray.

I'm gonna listen to SubRosa and wrap these remaining Christmas presents and maybe order some pizza.

I was hungover at work all day after drinking a beer called "Tart Side of the Moon" by Brewery Vivant and another called "Kill 'Em All" by Perrin Brewing Company. Got accidentally messed up on those, got really bad heartburn and slept like shit. It made retail somewhat terrifying today but all turned out good and well.

On the subject of cities, since we're on it, I live in Grand Rapids, MI. Pretty small city. It's not bad. Kinda ready for an upgrade but not sure where to. Have been seriously considering PNW. Portland, Seattle or Tacoma are some serious considerations for me. I think I could maybe do Denver as well. Something about these cities seem to have some midwestern spirit about them while being distinctly not in the midwest. I think Austin is rad as hell but way too hot for me.
