I've been trying to do one of these for years, I just started a new punk band though, and if it works out we're absolutely playing a Halloween show as Minor Threat

Depends on how you prefer to balance the equation with regard to tension and thickness. I use a 14-62 set for B standard on 24.75", with a wound 3rd (technically, it's an 11-49 set with a 62 on a 7-string tuned BEADF#BE). It's helpful to figure out the tensions for your current preferred set and tuning using an online tension calculator, and then calculate the correct gauges to maintain those tensions at the new tuning.

If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.

Gotcha. I had no idea there was a calculator online for that purpose. Thanks

I like 14-68 D'Addario for A. I like string tension and A is even a little too floppy for my tastes. I started with 14-68 on my Gibson's because that's as small as I could go with really getting the intonation dead on.

Speaking of strings. What do you guys think of Circle K strings? I tend to like the tone of nickel strings, there's a smoothness with the highs and they tend to bend more naturally. Do Circle K's have good tone and feel? I think I might bite the bullet and get an 8-string and I'm trying to figure out my options.

Love my circle k bass strings. Next round of guitar strings, I am gonna give them a shot for that too.

I have to use nickel or nickel-coated strings because my sweat is straight poison.

Merry Christmas, you blokes.
I didn't die, nor have I yet lost sight in one eye.
I'm counting those as blessings.
Haven't been around because staring at screens gives me some grief, but it's starting to get a bit easier.
Just thought I'd drop in and offer my seasonal greetings like.

I'm not gonna mention how I hurt myself, because it was stupid and I don't feel like getting a lecture from conkers about it.
I acknowledge it was very dumb.
All I'm gonna say is that it was archery related, and don't anybody ever fucking do a job without the right tool.
Conky can now probably guess what I did. PM me for my story of shame dude.

Also, Mike rules. I'm gonna pick the AOR up from its overhaul this week and get down with a doom bloom.

I wanted to harass Nic Belor about that midnight tour box because I keep thinking a holy mountain and a derange master in one box would be badass. Call it a Zionic Iommiser.

Anyway, hope you guys had a great Chrisymas and you've been looking after yourselves.

I don't know how long his wait is, but I took advantage of his Christmas sale and ordered a Holy Mountain and Sonic Violence! :omg:

Stoked to try them out. Just gotta sell some other things to make up funds. Also picked up a J. Mascis Jazzy to beat up live since I didn't want to beat my Ric 480.

Oooh yeah man those should be rad. Let us know what you think when you get them.
I wouldn't mind one of those Mascis jazzies. I'd love to see a silver or anodised black on the white though.

awesome.. actually waiting on a discount code that's coming with a the holy mountain I ordered to snag a sonic violence as well :joy: seems like the next best thing to a Volt Thrower :idk:

a derange master would be neat into a THM, but an OD/slave driver would be absolutely killer
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again

Yeah, I was thinking of looking for a black anodized guard like the one on the Thurston Moore JM, even with just a single volume knob and the rhythm circuit bypassed. Maybe pick up a set of Curtis Novak 180 pickups, which are two P90's in each pickups. Just fucking stack them and bypass everything else. It'll either sound really shitty or really good, haha. But that's probably way in the future.

And I'll let you know when those pedals arrive and how they sound. If they even come close to the sound clips on his site then it's good enough for me.

Rad! Yeah, I'm actually not too sure exactly how he's "modded" his take on the Rat circuit, I kinda just fell in love with the clips and and the look of it. Plus I sold my Rat Tail to our bass player, so I wanted to keep a rat circuit pedal on board. The FAC control just seems more useful to me than the low and hi setting that I never used on my Rat Tail. But besides that FAC control, I have no clue what else is done to the circuit, haha. It just sounded exactly how I imagined the tone I want in my head :animal:

Chiller, those things sound badass.

Also, RATs and FACs are great for each other. I had an Enormous Door PDX teamed up with my Black Forest for a while there.
Static Tensions toanz for months.
