Best part is, he will use Nitro, so it will naturally age even more!

Oh yeah, I forgot the new ones don't have the same burst pattern anymore. Sounds like a cool "relic" job, more up my alley than the usual whips and chains stuff. You can buy the aged yellow speed knobs from RS guitar works, I bought them for my old SG when I sold it, because I lost the original ones.

On this whole A/B thing, there needs to be a C option for people who hyper obsess about signal path, but dont give a shit about symmetry. WHo create massively over complicated boards and have the precise position of every knob memorized. WHo have no time to spend removing the spilt beer, the various bodily fluids, the dirt and muck that accumulates through usage. Who clean things by taking them apart and utilizing de-oxit, not soap or something.
Last time my board got cleaned, I think, was when I re did things and got rid of the old wood frame.

No link yet. We're going to LA the first weekend of March to record at Earth Capital. If any of y'all live there and are into that kinda shit, we're playing our first show March 7 at Perez Tire with Gatecreeper from AZ and a bunch of other death metally hardcore bands, I think. Band's called godchyld.

I'm really leaning toward the Yamaha SG clone or a Les Paul. Only thing that sucks dongs is that it has to be a flat top.

I had a Silverburst itch that needed scratched pretty badly several years ago. Not willing to spend $3-4K on one, I decided to get a Chinese "Fibson" to gut and build from the ground up. The only thing left on it from China was the wood, frets, and plastic back covers. Everything else was replaced with excellent quality parts. I even learned a thing or two about relicing a guitar on that one.

In the end, it just did not scratch the itch and I ended up selling it (very upfront about it being a counterfeit of course, because I'm not a total piece of shit). It looked the part, all the way down to the "greened" finish and the nitro cracks, which were lightly scribed in with an Exacto. But it just wan't the guitar I wanted it to be. The guy I sold it to loves it, though.

PS - I did the yellowing by coloring it with a yellow Sharpie and spreading it around with a damp alcohol pad.

I try and be more type B in regards to the pedalboard thing, my current main board is all set up and velcroed and meticulous currently. That said, I only really use my main board for band practice as all of my fun to play pedals are just scattered around.

i would definitely do something in the les paul family, which to me includes the yamaha sg. i prefer the japanese double cuts myself, like the yammy or an ibanez artist, although traditional les pauls are also awesome. but, i think without the arch top (which sucks that you can't do) i would definitely go the double cut route. i think it works with a flat top much better than a traditional LP shape. natural wood finish with black hardware and neck binding would be my vote. a nice dark wood though, or at least stained fairly dark. i assume you're doing a set neck?

i'm jealous. i've always wanted to take the time and money to do a luthier class and build a guitar. but the stars haven't aligned for it yet. one of my favorite parts of my job is getting to pick out beautiful wood with interesting character for stain grade finish work and seeing it go into place. i would just love so much to get to do that with my guitar, sort through slabs of lumber for the one that speaks to me and form it into my vision. mmm. one day...
