Listening to Neurosis Times of Grace. Why the fuck did I not listen to this band before? OMG. I love it!

For sure! Still a band that I've yet to see live. Well, I did see Scott Kelly a few years ago in a tiny club on a solo acoustic tour with like 10 people there. Amazing, emotional performance. Can't imagine the power of Neurosis live.

Listening to the newest Slipknot-album for work (apparently I'm seeing them live tomorrow). So, musically this is ok, some cool guitar work and stuff. But are the lyrics written by an angry fourteen year old?
And the production is kinda lame. Not saying it sucks, but it all seems fake in a way.

I saw Slipknot when I was a mildly irate 12(?) year old. It was super rad. There was fire. And boobs. And volume. My mom took me.

Haha, awesome. Yeah, I guess this is music marketed more towards angsty teens? Trying to get into that mindset for the review, but some of this stuff just seems so... dumb. But hey, as long as the fans are happy and they achieve whatever it is they're trying to do (fuck everybody, get fucked up, destroy the world order?), I'm happy.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I mean, I don't know -- I haven't listened to any of their albums in years. It's got to be marketed on some level (no band gets that big without it) but an awful lot of loud guitar music is sort of inherently nihilistic/explosive/whatever and has the emotional nuance of the first Circle Jerks record.
Which is not to talk shit on the Circle Jerks, of course. Some of the greatest records of all time are gloriously dumb.
