Dorothia was on a Van Zandt tribute/cover record awhile back. I think dude from Baroness was on it, too.

Yeah John Baizley was on that, along with Mike Scheidt and Nate Hall (of USX), and a couple cameos by Stevie Floyd.
Volume 1 had Steve Von Till, Scott Kelly, and Wino.
Both are, for the most part, very authentic and overall pretty good.

I have both volumes...like you say overall they are quite good...some songs i found the slowing down was a bit too much.

I still haven't listened to Windhand. There's some country that doesn't suck, but it's fairly far between, and the genre tropes turn me off regardless.

"Country" wasn't the first thing I thought when I heard it, but that might be because I tend to associate country largely with the aforementioned radio-friendly crap. There's at least as much folk as country, and some hints of blues, which might make it more palatable for your tastes.

Yeah I like some Appalachian/folk music, but I don't really lump that in with country in the Nashville/Hank Williams/Merle Haggard sense, which is what I think of as "country." Old blues music is tremendous. I'll listen to the album sooner or later, I just wish all these bands I keep hearing about would take a simultaneous hiatus so I can catch up.

Makes me wanna put out a country album.
Do not give a fuck what anyone thinks.
For the record, this whole "#DarkAmericana" thing is just hipster talk for country that is ok to listen to.
Listening this morning. Very Van Zandt. My dad is like a folk guitar virtuoso, and I pretty much picked up guitar because of him, so I have a soft spot for folky stuff. I like to keep it bleak though, and this fits the bill perfectly. I've also been jamming the new Elder album. Definitely worth a look.

Ya know I really actually love snow. I love seeing it, watching it come down, skiing, playing in it, everything. Except today.
Why does it have to fucking snow today?

Also, I hate admitting that PRS guitars play and sound good, because they are total bro rock guitars. They do put out high quality shit, though.
I love a hollow-body. I've tried out the Gretsch G5422TDC Electromatic a bunch of times now and always want to take it home. Also want a Guild M-75.
Anyone heard the new Two Gallants album yet. Just picked it up. Again, completely different to their other albums. Awesome, awesome band.

Two Gallants are great, albeit, I really didn't dig their stuff after their self titled album. The first two are fucking gold, though. Very raw.
And I fucking love that Van Zandt Vol 2 album. Gotta look into vol 1.
