I think ilf should become communist and we should redistribute all the gear equally among the people

solid state lyf
feat. early 70's YTA-95 and mid 80's JC120

 do they sound pretty similar?

hmmmm, they're definitely more similar than comparing either to any other amps i've owned (because both are japanese solid state amps designed in a similar era i guess), but they both have kinda distinct characteristics.
the yamaha has this 60s/70s kinda voice going on that sounds more like a tube amp tonally but with no breakup, def my favourite amp to use as a 'normal' guitar amp cos of the distinctiveness of it. the reverb is nuts, super drippy and echoey.
the roland is definitely has a more full/flat sound to it that works better for running different sound sources into, reverb is more tame sounding and it's quite a bit louder. i've been using it with my jazzmaster tuned to B and really liking the sounds. even works great with the mustang bass.
still need to try them as a stereo pair.. and using the JC as a stereo power amp for my mixer..

I worked it out when I got it...contacted the seller, he was shocked and was going to refund me etc...apparently he had bought it a month before for a one off gig, and had no idea it had been painted.

But when i plugged in and heard the thing...the black paint was very quickly forgotten...and to be honest, who ever did paint it, did a pretty good job of it. The only fuck up is that they painted over the pipping, and thats a little sticky.

Hahahaha, when I started reading this I thought you were joking. Maybe there's a way to safely remove the paint?

nah, im not too fussed about removing it...but as the years go by and it gets bumped around, the orange will start to show through.

nice purchase...those AD30's are pretty cool. Is it a true 2 channel, or is it dirty, and more dirty channel??

It's a true two channel. Channel one has a little less dirt though but its a generally more bass-y channel will channel two has more gain and the cleans are a bit more sparkly. I've spent most my time on channel one, though, its sound really thick and delicious if you push it with a muff.

Always wanted an AD30. They look like a lot of fun.
Is that a bass cab underneath it?

Nah I wish, its just one of the newer fender 412's, I can't remember the name but its was $200 used at GC.
It has celestion g12's or something similar to that. It sounds fine for now though.

Only about a half a dozen of these are mine at this point. I used to own much of the guitar stuff in this picture but I've traded it off to the studio (Big Sound Productions here in Seattle) to pay for recording etc

I spy a VT-22 in the lower left. Awesome amp. I had one I repaired/restored that had Altec Lansing 417 speakers in it and I never should have sold it. Was an awesome amp.

Those things rule! We didn't use it for our most recent session because of that blue Soldano I posted a week or two ago. But usually we do.
