No. It's a gimmick by the bigger cab makers that doesn't actually play out well in real life. In my experience, and I've tried it a bunch, it never sounds good. There's always some weird frequency conflicts and phase cancellation going on. What I've found to usually happen is that you can play with one head or the other switched on and have it dialed in to sound good and when you hit the ab/y to turn on the other one the low end vanishes and it just sounds all weird and shitty. In a shitty way, not a cool shitty way. Perhaps you could alleviate it somewhat with an internal isolation baffle, but I wouldn't trust that to really do it, not to mention your screwing up the dimensions that make it sound good as a 4x12. Totally not a good ideas in my opinion. I think there's a good reason that smaller builders and high end builders have not pursued catching up with Marshall and Mesa on this one.

I agree with misterstomach, I've never found a stereo cab to be worth it. You get more out of dual rigs if you have some use for stereo effects, than with a split side cab. Some cabs are just stereo as part of their base price, like newer Marshall cabs. Nothing wrong with that if the price is right, they still work fine as mono cabs.

Hmm. Thanks for the tips! I guess I'll just work on getting nicer speakers rather than an extra piece of shit to set up. I got a trade offer of some Sheffields for my G12T75s. Supposedly these are Peavey's 100W version of the V30, that used to come stock in the old XXX 412 cabinets. I know somebody in here liked the Sheffields a fair deal, but Peavey calls pretty much all their current speakers Sheffield it seems like  I really like my V30s in my one cab, anyone know if these are even remotely comparable?

I have one of those Fender baritone Jaguar's with the 28 5/8" scale with the Fender VI strings. I forget the gauge but I think the low E is a 95 and it does E-e pretty well. The low E could be a hair larger, I like a lot of string tension but the rest of the strings sound like a piano. I was thinking of doing a unison A tuning instead since it naturally sounds more punchy.

DoS beat me to the new Elder, but yes. Get it. It is amazing. Was just listening to Legend while I made breakfast.
I've got the Dorthia Cotttell solo incoming as well, and it is sweet. Bittersweet.

New fister and primitive man?
Gotta check those.

Also, astronomers: BLOOD MOON TONIGHT. Not sure how visible in the Northern Hemisphere but I can view from Bris alright, so AusDoomers, gather under the eclipse with your monoliths of dark watts for communion from about 8/9 eastern time tonight. Ya, I'm really hating the t75s. They're really blocky sounding in the low mids and harsh in the highs (even though I cut the highs going to them). I'm tempted because of the V30 comparison, but I converted an old Peavey Transtube into a 212 cab when I was away in college, and those 1230s (I think?) sounded pretty decent. I listened to several V30 variant comparisons with headphones, and while the differences are pretty noticeable, I think if they're even 80% of what regular V30s are, they'll be close enough to be worth the trade.

Also, I know all the standard wiring tricks for 16 ohm speakers, but I'd be trying to weasel these into an 8 ohm configuration (which by all accounts seems nigh impossible). I dug around and found some really vague references to heatsink resistors to change the impedance, but I don't know how exactly that would work, given that I know:

16 ohm speaker (in parallel to) + 2 8 ohm speakers in series equals 8 ohms total, but the power dispersion ends up unbalanced, and I worry that adding random ass resistors could cause some type of similar issue. Halp?
