It's not so much a difference in sound so much as being able to run it with my other 8 ohm cab in the event I need mono setup for some reason. I just want options is all. :idk;

This land is a void of used musical equipment. I've found cooler stuff at Guitar center than I have on Craigslist. Nobody ever seems in the market to buy, and the average trade offer is pretty shit. People are trying to get rid of $4000 Buckehead guitars, or broken $50 strat copies. I'd almost be better off trying to sell it on fleabay, but that's such a PITA that'd I'd be lucky to break even on the cab with shipping costs and stuff factored in.

In the event that anyone missed it, Kowloon Walled City put up their Lose, Lose, Lose split up for free on their bandcamp. I'm planning on picking up a physical copy of one or two of their other records, so I don't feel too bad about it. It's pretty good stuff, although it isn't a new record by any means. Dem bazz toanz!

Finally able to function after getting back from tour yesterday. Had a fucking blast and can't wait to do it again. Ate a shit ton of pizza and saw a bunch of good bands. Life is good.

Sorry man I've been on vacation down in the south for a week and I'm just now getting everything back on track...

i actually found conky's thread from a while back about speaker advice, which had skip chiming in with some very relevant wisdom to my current situation. definitely seeming like the gt65's are what i'm looking for. i didn't realize that it was sort of based on the greenback. i love the sound of greenbacks, but they're not high enough wattage for me to feel comfortable with. i'm worried i'd shred them in short order. but the 65's sound great. i'm kind of leaning towards the wgs et65's. sounds like they're maybe a little brighter and closer to a v30, which i like and based on the specs on all the manufacturer's websites, it seems that they're more efficient than the others, which i like. get a little more volume out of my rig. and, they're waaayyy cheaper than the others. which rules. i've been in touch with a certain cab builder about some ideas i have, so we'll see how that shakes out. i appreciate everyone's help on here.

Between the the Weber and WGS 65 variants I would suggest the WGS versions. They have a hair more high end which results more in cut and clarity than harshness, and they are definitely a bit more efficient. I like my webers for different reasons (a lil more low mids and even more high end roll off) but the WGS for the price are unbeatable. The ET90's are supposed to be voiced nearly identical to the 65's but with more power handling, sounds like that might be a good way to go to avoid frying any more speakers.



In my own gear world looks like the Randall is going out (to one of the guitarists in my band) and an old friend will be coming back home also got some new dirt pedals in the queue to get built and my ODB is heading back home. Also got some short mic stands so I can mic up my full rig without being too in the way so hopefully I'll be able to do demo's again here soon.

Side note: Does anyone know of a a cassette 4-8 track recorder with midi capabilities? I want to add in some tape capabilities to my recording rig and I've done something like this before but I can't remember which recorder we used. Basically I can use 4 1/4 outs from my interface to go into the tape machine and then use the individual tape track outs to go back intot he 4 1/4 inputs on my interface, that way if I want to I can make a tape version of a recorded track or I can record direct into the 4 track and then bounce them to digital. There's nothing like tape saturation on drum tracks. But I need one with midi capability to sync it with my interface so I don't run into sync / phase issues.

3) I had a Yamaha 4-track that would sync to MIDI, but you had to stripe time code on one of the tracks to do it. Kind of a pain. I upgraded to the MT-1X, which had a separate sync module. It worked pretty well. Not sure what TASCAM and Fostex have with MIDI... hopefully someone else has experience with those?

Yeah I'm excited! and the old friend will definitely be nice to have back, I now have the cab configuration that will bring the most out of it. With the new dirt pedals and setup It's gonna be wicked.

I'm finding that Yamaha seems to be the main company that made them with midi, theres one in particular I'm looking for but it rarely pops up used for sale. I'd like to use a tascam as thats the interface brand that I use, but even the mk3 version of the 424 doesn't have midi from what I can tell. I'm sure theres a way i'm just gonna have to do more research. If I use it solely for drum tracks the midi isn't exactly necessary but it would definitely make life a hell of a lot easier, especially if I wanna reamp guitar tracks through the tape for some saturation / tone.

You could also use something like the JL Cooper PPS-2 (https://jlcooper.com/_php/product.php?prod=pps2) to stripe time code onto one track of your tape, then sync the MIDI back up with that... that would limit you to 3 tracks on your trusty 424, but...

That's too much work and I need all 4 drum tracks on the tape recorder. If I only use it for drum tracks there will be no issues really I'll just have to bounce them all to digital before we can track anything else. I'll put the sends into the interface and then kinda mix the headphone signal in the box, it would be a pain to line up the scratch guitar track though after bouncing the tape but its not impossible.

I had seen that when it was posted a while ago. He uses it very differently than I want to but the way he uses it is genius.
