Okay so I think I have finally figured out the formula to determine whether or not your amp is doom acceptable.

*Disclaimer* This formula is designed for tube amps.

Legend:
X= Amp wattage
Y= Amp Volume
Z= Amp acceptability

Formula:
(X/10) x Y = Z

Samples:
100w on 8
(100/10) x 10 = 80%

30w on 4
(30/10) x 4 = 12%

50w on 6
(50/10) x 6 = 30%

200w on 10
(200/10) x 10 = 200%

It seems to work out, don't ya think? :idk:

By this standard, anything at or above around 3.333 on Mr. Grumpy should be up to standard.

Hmmmm if I knew how to make those symbols I gladly would have swapped them for XYZ :facepalm:

This is not for multiple amps but a formula for figuring out whether or not a single amp is up to par. But considering an SVT above 3 according to this formula is beyond 100% acceptable, I think your fine. :thumb:

Correct, and I have a feeling you won't be disappointed when you put it to the test. ;)

All I gotta do is crank to 5 and I'm good. Considering full on band practice has never needed above 2 or 3 I think that its fairly accurate.

What about figuring for rigs with multiple heads? What if they not set at the same volume? Do we need to create a mean value for amp volume based on all the heads? Are we allowed to add the amp wattages together, or do we have to adjust for the amount of speakers they're driving as well?

Ok dudes, So the other night I saw Sleep in Atlanta and I did enjoy their set (or what I saw, we left right when they kicked into Dragonaut). I enjoyed their set and even bought the Clarity single but when I listen t home I just can't get into it. What is their best stuff that I should start with? I've been at home sick all day and tried watching a bunch of their shows on youtube and I couldn't get 10 minutes into it before I had to find something else to listen to. Help me out so's I can keep my doom cred.

Also, Matt finally got a 2nd head (Earth) so we're gonna start dual rigging. Can't. Fucking. Wait. :!!!: :!!!: :!!!:

Time to run full statistical analyses.
Break out yo MANOVA!

What about hybrid rigs utilising bass and guitar gear, or SS and Tube (tube watts have a different exchange rate to SS watts. And Russian wattsare different again)?

I'd also like to point out that skully runs a micro setup and that guy is doom as fvck.

I feel like this is the wrong direction to take this theory in.
I think what we may actually need to be looking at is a way of quantifying the effect a riff has on an individual.

Wherein doom factor is calculated as a percentage of the compound effect tritones have on riffing, in conjunction with elements of harsh noise, low tunings and perceived misesry of listener.

So, maybe: %Doom = (TTxR)+(H+L)/Misery
WWPD?

I've got to be in the right mood to listen to Sleep. For a long time Dopespoker was my go-to for catching up on paperwork on Friday afternoons. I really wish they would've released Antarticus Thawed instead of the Clarity though.

Dual Rigs ftw :doom:

I'd have to qualify on this formula, since I'm hitting about a 7.5% on the other one :lol:
