Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I love seeing the "formula" explored
My questions were totally facetious by the way, but the responses were totally worth it. No regrets.
I get the whole not liking X band thing, but if it makes you feel any better Conk, my one friend told me at the end of the Sleep show how much he loved it and how bored to death he was during Thou's set. My other 4 friends and I looked at him in sheer disbelief. I can't think of too many "doom" bands that I outright dislike, but there are definitely ones that didn't get more than sitting out of me. Thou's Tyrant album could have turned into one of those. It does melodic and harsh, but it bugs me that they tried to do both simultaneously in certain songs, especially the placement of the vocals. I do remember someone in here saying some albums that grow on you can be more satisfying than easily accessible ones. It's growing on me for sure.
I got my duncan distortion in on Friday and got to play it here and there. It sounds surprisingly similar to my Super 2; a little more low end and body to the mids, but pretty clear overall. More or less what I wanted, but FUCK it's a loud pickup. I have it set pretty low and cleans are difficult on my SS amp which is run pretty clean. I guess I have a volume pedal for a reason. The real test will be with full rig at the space when I can make it over there.
Now that our other guitarist is done for the semester and our bassist is off for the summer before grad school starts maybe we can finish this fabled "EP" that we keep talking about...

I wouldn't rehouse the bubble font. They are becoming rare. Keep it for recording and use a clone on the board. I built myself a kit clone bubble font a couple of weeks ago. Sounds awesome though not sure how it would a/b against the real deal bubble font as I've never owned or played one, or know anyone with one I could a/b it against.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Wow I missed quite a bit.....
Good updates on the Amp formula guys, I'd have to agree witht he rest of the panel and definitely agree that the douche factor is a necessity.
Axe-FX / Kemper - These pieces have their place for sure. While I believe they will never full on replace the sound of a tube amp thats so loud you can cook bacon on the tubes, they do allow a studio to have an amazingly vast array of tones that 99% of the population could not tell is digital. This allows a studio or engineer to pay $2500 for infinite amp tones, instead of just one badass head. They may not work live for a doom band but for tech metal and pop / radio rock who have their own sound guys and PA systems it can be a great tonal tool. I don't fear the digital, I just have no taste for it.
Bubble Font - Christian what about the ARC effects bubble font clone, its relatively small and is a clone of Skully's authentic bubble font and he said it sounds nearly identical like 98% of the way there. Just a thought.

Ya dood. First time playing with other people in like four months. Felt good.
my favorite muff is still the secret satan build, but that doesn't go outside because I would probably start bawling if something happened to it.

Arc Effects muff is based on the tall font, not the bubble font.

Fredric does a bubble font (you dirty corksniffer just get an AxeFX)
Stomp Under Foot does one, too, I believe.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Can someone link the Arc bubble font? Because all I've ever seen from him is the tall font.
