Bass Amps:
Peavey CL 400
SVT
Mesa 400
Meatsmoke.
(not in any special order, I would rank them differently, but these amps are all so far above the rest that it's really not important.)

I know Sunn amps are hot and all that, but seriously keep an eye out for a Beta Bass. Small, lightweight, reliable, and gnarly as fuck. Get one of those Beta slave heads (or any other Sunn slave) and you will never have to worry about the bass being drowned out. That said, when I was in Galaxicon, the bassist used one through a 2x15 and it totally kept up with my V4 and Beta Bass.

Also, FWIW, the bassist for Khemmis uses an SVT CL and has had almost no problems with it after getting it thoroughly checked out by a reliable tech.
KHEMMIS. Doomed heavy metal. DECEIVER out 11/19/21 on Nuclear Blast.

GLACIAL TOMB. Misanthropic death/black/sludge. S/t debut out now on Gilead Media.

Good deals with: Ancient Astronaught, conky, crohny, D-Day, Corey Y, ryan summit, tons more here and on HCFX under this username

I'm curious now, as to what all they did differently that might cause a reliability issue. I tend towards the school of thought that older is better, say around 75 for the cutoff, because things were over engineered and built to last, whereas when time goes on from there, manufacturing techniques improved from a financial standpoint and were qualitatively lessened as a result. As in: What is the cheapest part we can use and have this thing do what it is intended to do, long enough to sell some? I'd rather not have anything designed from that viewpoint. Yes the old amps need maintenance, but so do the newer ones, and I guess for me it's a matter of how often it will be required.

Edit:I would classify Dunwich, Verellen, a few others, as "old amps" as they fit my idea of design from that time period. Emphasis on quality.

-patiently waiting an atlas cabs qoute.-

as far as the svts i have no idea why they did what they did, they both were gone through and maintained as needed. yea they were dimed constantly but they always had proper loads / bias and cooldown time before moving them.

between that asshat pair i lost about 700$ in maintenance and resale when i couldnt stand looking at them. honest techs imho will tell you theyre built like shit.

i hammer my old svts 10x as hard and so far ive had zero issues

Good to know. We've got a line on a Blue line SVT, but it needs to be gone through, and dude wants like $1800 for it which seems nuts.

I've had a rackmount SVT3Pro that i've had forever that has never given me any problems. Ran it with an Ampeg fridge 8x10 with a Pharaoh and Rat for super heavies in my last crust band. I found it online for about $400 shipped.

Always have heard good things about blue line svts. Juan Alderete uses them and loves them. His stuff with Mars Volta was great.

Saw Mad Max. That shit was great. If you guys dig action movies then definitely go see it. Really well shot and shits all over most other modern action movies.

Also this happened, but I had to miss it:

1800 for one with new caps and tubes would be much more reasonable. however if its running the original power tubes and not the 6550s you can find nos ones relatively cheap.

It's nuts except that it's a vintage amp that's only going to get more vintage-y.

Blue Line SVTs sound fucking boss, though.
