i was lucky enough to see them last year, sooooooo tight, it's weird seeing Yoshida play calmer stuff but he still does it with superhuman technique.

When I was a young man, maybe 19 or 20, I went to go see Ruins at The Stone. They were playing two sets, and I planned on staying for both; I believe it is the only occasion on which I have left a show I enjoyed because it was too intense.

Yaassss. The Abyss is a great album. Drumm/Lescaleet is a great pairing (although I didn't like Invisible Curse). I'm (not so secretly) a sucker for Erstwhile shit, even though Jon Abbey was a little bit of a dick to me once upon a time.

I don't have the emails anymore, since it was something like ten years ago, but a younger, more impressionable me emailed him looking for advice on starting an experimental music label/how to work my way into that scene (since I was living in the middle of nowhere at the time)/etc and he basically shot back with "Too bad kid, I made this myself and you'll just have to figure it out too. I didn't listen to your music, but it probably sucks. Also if you don't already know people, you're basically fucked".
Put a pretty severe dent in my ego and I just basically gave up everything I was working on. Took a pretty long hiatus from even making music, and I probably still have a little trouble sharing my music nowadays which could kind of be attributed to that interaction. Granted, he didn't know me from a hole in the wall, but still.
