Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
lol. i noticed that those are two that don't have any esoteric labeling structures (except the ! and !! i guess? but just hit those with gates or audio level mod and BOOP) or hidden button presses to remember. so... maybe that's it?
they KNOW how to build stuff, i just hate their interface ideas usually?

haha yeah I like make noise stuff and even I'm not into all of the interfaces. Dang. Now I kinda want to swap my MMG for a QPAS. The thing I already love... but... in... stereo?

Stereo is twice as good as mono.
I check this thread often but have nothing to contribute besides for photos of shit I spend money on. Eventually I’ll have some new music maybe.

The only Make Noise module I currently have is the reverb. Erbe-Verb pretty much lays it all out in front of you. Just wish it was stereo input... I know there's some stereo options these days, but it really hasn't been a big motivator.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I've been on the fence lately about QPAS. It has some good sounds but I do worry about it sounding too QPAS-y sometimes. The resonance necessitates a lot of restraint and it doesn't really do much for me on bass voices. I need to spend some time with it soon and see if I can break through with it.
Also feeling the same about DFAM lately. Lots of cool sounds and fun, but ultimately I never work it into recordings or spend more than 30 minutes with it.
Might be time to purge a couple of items soon!

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
yeahhhhh i just like it? it's not the best for angry feedback filtering, that's way more fun with the Borg Dropping Deuces, but it's just... easy to get good sounds out of?
i don't use a ton of filters though.
lol. trying to record something with the Reverse Landfill Monotropa and it's clipping hellza hard. have had a lonnnnng day and i'm sort of free tomorrow (Lasiks checkup eye exam and a hand x-ray woooooo till about noon), so i'll see if there's a good plugin to reduce the input signal. i mean. it's SUPPOSED to turn into awful messy noise, but not clip the input?
i'm still kinda confused about the ES-9. i got the EC4 setup to control the monitoring levels/pan of each input, a page to change the send levels of every input to two different stereo outs, but i assumed changing the levels inside the ES-9 would also control their gain staging before output to the computer, does nooooot seem to do that.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Got rid of the DPO.
Spent a lot of time with it and decided to part with it.
It's pretty cool but it's also a lot of HP and $$$.......when I'm not really using it to it's fullest.
Ended up doing what I was going to do months ago. sell DPO and get WMD/SSF Spectrum.
I also have a Plaits now too so I have voice options.

The WMD/SSF Spectrum is one of the best and most versatile “bread and butter” VCOs out there. It’s super handy. I’ve thought about selling mine from lack of use multiple times, but so glad I’ve kept it. It just works and does what you expect it to.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
it's really good. i lean towards the Befaco Even VCO, but that's just because i prefer oscillators that you don't have to tune.
woooooooOOOOOT. Data Bender just got here. should be home from work in an hour or two. FAILURE NOISE TIME.

noisey butts times. the Prok Drums are being improved by the Reverse Landfill Monotropa before they hit the Data Bender. you can hear them clean any time the mix goes all the way down.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Yeah, I was debating between the Dixie II or the Spectrum. I don't think I could have gone wrong with either, when it comes to rock solid basic VCO.yeatsvisitslincoln wrote:The WMD/SSF Spectrum is one of the best and most versatile “bread and butter” VCOs out there. I feel like I'm starting to lose focus on what I want to do with modular and have gotten lost experimenting and learning.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Dixie is also rock solid, can't really go wrong with that one.
Experimenting and learning is good? IDK. I didn't know what I was doing when I started in euro, and got stuff just to experiment. Through experimenting and trying things I've found something that I think works for me. Not a bad thing.

Very similar modules. I've been strokin' and drooling over WMD stuff for a while now.....that was the real deciding factor.coldbrightsunlight wrote:Dixie is also rock solid, can't really go wrong with that one.

No, you're right, it is good.........it's not where I imagined I'd be after getting into euro, selling it all and getting back into it again.
This 2nd attempt has been much more fun and interesting but the lack of a goal combined with how much euro costs.....is the worrying part. lol
I'm getting more interesting patches than ever before. I would say I hit a dead end and it sounds terrible only once or twice a week now....compared to every single time I tried before. lol
The biggest gains for me this time has been learning how to copy other sounds and create them from scratch.
Not really spending a ton of time making music or tracks.
