Today it's forbidden to listen to music in my state. It feels great to illegally listen to Bauhaus' Hollow Hills. Before that I was listening to the remixes of Popol Vuh and Sonic Youth in the morning. Playing guitar and thinking that someone could call the cops on you and you might get a 1000€ fine is exciting. Especially with the new flanger I got from Donnie.

That's bizarre. I have not heard of anything like that in modern times. I heard in Nazi Germany they banned Jazz as a "subhuman" music at least according the the Ken Burns Documentary.

A quick google led to this:

There are currently nine days on the Bavarian calendar when dancing is outlawed, including the four days directly preceding Easter. The state's neighbor to the west, Baden-Württemberg, is even more restrictive, banning bop during parts of 18 days -- including from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. on New Year's Day. Every other state in the country, including the famously debaucherous city-state of Berlin, has dance bans on their books too.

I had no idea...why??

Our lord-saviours death!
Thou can'st dance on the lord saviours' dying day.

I'm not sure on any of the details and I actually thought it was only outlawed in catholic states, no idea they had that sorta thing in Berlin too. I don't know how common it is to actually enforce this law in other places, but at least here in Cologne bars stop the music at midnight on Good Friday. And it's generally forbidden to be noisy, a friend of mine did not dare to move into his new apartment today, because he'd heard of people that got fined for moving on Good Friday.
Well, people also get ash crosses on their faces on Ash Wednesday and keep it that way the whole day.

I think the terminology the Nazis used for Jazz, abstract and expressionist art and lots of other shit would roughly translate as degenerate. Jazz was outlawed, but not completely. As far as I recall (from reading in some liner notes ages ago) there were some officially approved Swing Bands, but all in all, Wagner was more en vogue in the Third Reich. I think the underlying theory is something related to race hygiene which would not only mean genetic but also mental/meme hygiene.

Popol Vuh have released a sort of best of / remix album called "revisited and remixed", it's fairly recent. Here is one of the strongest remixes:

That's crazy man. Dunno if I could last in a place like that. Still interesting tho. Gonna have to listen to those remixes in a bit.

Had my first band practice with the new band today as the bassist. It was completely crazy in a really good way. The three of us just clicked musically with little effort needed to just go OFF. So far we've worked up two original songs (the skeletons at least) and a cover of Killing In the Name Of (guitar solo on bass yo) and it all sounds HEAVY. We all kind geeked out about it an hour in, just realizing we have something special going on was rad.

So yeah, after all this time playing guitar, I'm pulling full time duty in a band playing bass.

I still get to sing with the drummer, so theres that.and I've got songs that we'll try and learn of course. But as far as first ban practices go, :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom: :ilf: :doom:

Also, daym ssstampede on bass. :animal:

I have another date with her in a few days.

I have a new neighbor and yesterday he stopped me on the stairs and started like "yeah, the day before yesterday I heard you play music..." And i was already freaking out because I thought there goes my Xanadu of noising about in my appartment, and started preparing excuses when he continued "...that sounded freaking awesome, like a gamelan or some such shit, how'd you get that sound?"

Warm feelings!
