Some of the animation out of the Soviet Union in the 70s is super fascinating. Primarily when it's not propaganda.

I love it more when it is commie propaganda. And the music too. So heavy

Im not very familiar with them but last night I watched the documentary Heima they did about them coming back to Iceland after their US tour and playing a bunch of free shows. Most of the doc was a mix of live performances and scenic Iceland, with some interviews with the band mixed inbetween.

It just seemed silly to me because the whole movie hit me as hyper dramatic. The music playing over scenes of the band and their families playing on the beach, or like random children showing up in the middle of their performance in some isolated field, their general disposition while playing was so serious and they were "feeling it" so much it became humorous, watching Jonsi sing, Jonsi's fucking hat

I felt conflicted watching the whole thing. On one hand parts of it did come off as genuinely feeling pride for their band and their country and their people, bringing people together with not so typical music, like it was a profound experience for a lot of people involved and that's something I love about music.

On the other hand, I just thought the entire thing was so cliché that it hurt. But its not necessarily a bad thing? Like I understand that everyone has to drink the kool-aid and be on board to make shit happen, & I respect what they seemed to accomplish.

Actually I think I feel the same way about their music. Its well done, unique, pretty, emotive, but on the whole very dramatic and a bit taxing to hear in large quantities.

There's probably a lot of little things about the film I could add to support my argument a bit more but I can't remember them all.

Sooooo yeah, /rant.

I get told several times a week at work that I'm a Gentleman and a Scholar buy various "random" people and I usually take it in stride and smile cause I am but I think the moar I start to hear it that it might be some slight shade being thrown at me... :idk:

Prolly not but when I hear too much of a "good" thing I might sorta kinda get a lil suspicious...

Record stores in Seattle are no joke. I contemplated dropping $80 in one store just because of how sweet the selection was. Even after spending $30 at another store this morning.

At least I finally have the Dawn of Midi album :yay:
