Ryan - even though they seriously botched the ending of the series, Mass Effect is a great space RPG.
Re: Final Fantasy. IX is my favorite, and I don't care who knows it. Such cool old school fun in that one.

I like this thread! I'm on the fence about getting a 360 but need to upgrade my PS2. Games I definitely want to try/buy: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (made by Firaxis who made Civilization), Dishonored (getting great reviews and good 1st hand accounts from dudes like you), Assassin's Creed III (the naval warfare looks cool and also running through the forest and climbing trees and whatnot), Halo 4 (maybe, never played any of them before... ...), Gears of War (any of them), oh oh oh, also indie games like Fez, Braid, and Super Meat Boy. But mostly just XCOM and Dishonored, and I want the Star Wars Edition 360.

My friend has ANOTHER Xbox 360 Red ring on him. so between me and my four best friends, we've had over 10 xbox 360's red ring and die on us since the 360 debuted. I gave up after 3 of them and got the PS3. Haven't looked back since.

:/ Has Microsoft been good about replacing them or not? That is troublesome!

Yeah, we quit harassing teammates in Farcry 2 (and any other game, sadly) when three of our Xboxes red-ringed in a month. It's like they have timers on 'em. Mine died a week after the warranty ran out, I sold it to a repair shop in Florida and after shipping walked away with $10, yaaaay...

yup one of mine fried right after the warrantee. This is like 4 years ago, so maybe they got better with quality? IDK, like I said, 3 xbox's was enough to make me end that cycle.

I spent a ton of time in the first 'city' the Citadel - you can gain a ton of experience by doing random quests there and recruiting your team before blasting off to save the galaxy. It's one of my favorite series despite my issues with the end of the third game.
Regarding the 360 - mine got the rrod about a year after I had it, sent it off to get fixed and it's been fine since then *knocks on wood*
The new ones are supposed to have a better design as far as cooling to prevent the rrod.

Re: Video game thread. Huzzah!
From what I've read recently the red ring of death is due to the XBox over-heating. The newer the model the less chance of it crapping out. Microsoft is now saying the failure rates are the same as PS3's. I'll probably end up taking a gamble and seeing how it goes.

RE: Mass Effect 3
If you enjoyed the second game, I don't see why you wouldn't like the third, the shooter elements are improved and they brought back some rpg aspects and made each of the character classes even more distinct. The whole game is the ENDING, the last five minutes are crap, but they don't invalidate a fantastic game, and a great series.
Also they released a free update that mitigates some of the problems people had, so it's probably better to play through it now.
Ultimately a lot of the outrage came from the success of the games, people have lived with the characters and their stories for years, carrying a save game and thousands of little choices through three games, fans were pretty heavily invested...

Re: Video game thread. Huzzah!
Yeah, in my pm to space6oy I actually said that the third game has the best story. The part that upsets me is the fact that they literally chose one sequence of events to happen and changed around some incidental dialogue to show that the 'choice' had an impact. I know part of that is my responsibility for blindly believing that there would be significant impacts on the entire series. The very end was a let down (even with the DLC imo), but taken as a whole the third is the best game in the series.

I loved the suicide mission in 2.one of the Best final missions I've played in a game. I loved 2 and 3 is a masterpiece up until the last 5 minutes of the game. Also, I had so much fun playing the multiplayer in 3.
