Same.

6) Why the fuck didn't they just tell Poe the plan instead of creating turmoil on the ship over it? I mean, the fuck were they gaining not telling people? They made a big deal about how few people they had left, and all of them were escaping. So naturally this experienced leader trained by Leia just feels it's best to come across as a total bitch and shitty captain to keep it a surprise.
7) EVERYONE IS A FUCKING COMEDIAN. Leave that shit in the Avengers. There are way too many quips and one liners and they all fall flat. "Wipe that expression off your face Threepio!" "I'm sure you don't recognize me, I changed my hair." Even when it's not them trying to be Star Wars Avengers, the humor just doesn't belong. The "do you feel the force?" leaf scene with Luke and Rey actually had my theater audience groaning.
6. Poe was stepping out of his rank tbh. He was a little shit that cost the resistance lives and needed to be put in his place in order to learn to trust his superiors. And if he would have known the plan he probably would have spent his time foiling it anyways. So why would she tell him the plan if she wanted it to succeed? Makes sense to me.
7. This is a point I agree with. A lot of the jokes fell flat. EDIT: Also the Leia floating through space thing was really funny, and at that point I was kinda like "okay, this isn't going to be a star wars movie I expected. So I kinda feel ya there as well.
Regarding a few other points you made, really glad they killed snoke, he was boring and I think Johnson knew nothing interesting could be done with that character. I also feel like letting the darth vader-a-like kill off his master earlier rather than waiting for the final movie also leads for a more original story line. Same goes for the final duel thing you mentioned, (even though there was a final duel? kinda confused why you don't consider the kylo-luke duel not a duel, Luke even Goku'd the shit out of him) why do you want certain things to remain the same as past movies?
I have criticisms of the movie myself, but yours are rather different than mine, probably because I am not a "tru star wars fan."

So many people acting like JJ wasn’t going to LOST all of the questions that were posed in TFA. Rian Johnson just saved us from being Lindelof’ed into oblivion with Episode 9.
So, unlike the original trilogy, we won’t get a satisfying backstory to the incredibly powerful ruler of the empire. No way a backstory like that could totally derail the point of the movie or deter from any of its primary characters.
Also, and unrelated - original trilogy empire is actual Nazis. First Order is neo nazis.

Totes.
I wonder if Trump is gonna bitch about Star Wars and negative portrayals, &c.

Dudes. The pushback against criticism is misrepresented. I don’t want the same thing over again (I think that’s true of many SW fans).
Two people are dating for seven years. One day, one takes a knee at Niagara Falls and reaches into a pocket. They hand a note to other person that reads PSYCH I’M BANGING YOUR DAD HAHAHAHAHA
My issue is that fooling SW fans is easy. But that’s because this story is on rails. Jumping the rails is bizarre and probably betrays more about the filmmakers need to stamp the movie than it does about the backwardness of fanbois.
Also: Mark Hammill and I agree, which means I’m probably right.

Even if he had the telekinetic fine manipulation and the idea to kill Palpatine the way Kylo killed Snoke, he probably wouldn't have done it because it's a very dark-side thing to do and pretty out of character for him at the time.
ok, hold on right there. the BEST part of luke's history is that he has trouble with the dark side and it's temptation. like after the empire strikes back and he finds out about his father, loses his hand and his friend, he starts dressing in black and force choking his enemies. BAD ASS DARTH LUKE.
and i liked that the last jedi played with that, i only wish they'd had the guts to have luke really struggle in that moment and not make it be just a fleeting moment and a huge misunderstanding.

What? I'm not sure I understand what you're saying at all. The empire doesn't exist anymore, and presumably the first order filled that power vacuum. Likewise, technically, the "resistance" in the current trilogy is a distinct entity from the "rebel alliance" of the original trilogy, resisting a different group of galactic fascists.

You know what's dumb?
So, even though the Empire controls most of the galaxy, it still has a governing body that consists of the Senate.
But, the Senate keeps being like, "military, what you're doing is bullshit and we don't like".
So, rather than just say, "don't care, we're in charge and we're instituting marshal law," they decide to BLOW UP THE ENTIRE FUCKING PLANET THAT THE SENATE IS LOCATED.
Now, that's fucked up enough. But, the Empire ultimately crumbles after the death of it's leader.
But wait, now the First Order is stepping in to take control (although, one assumes they didn't do that good of a job).
Also, there's a
new Senate on a new planet.
So, the First Order tries to go all Empire, but the Senate, AGAIN, is like, "nah, we're not really into that".
Now, rather than just say, "naw, punk, we're in charge here," and occupy them and institute marshal law, THEY BLOW UP THE SENATE AND THEIR PLANET AGAIN.

CrookedRainJr wrote:Absolutely hated this movie, I say that as a huge Star Wars fan (Empire is even my favorite movie ever) and have seen the first showing of all of them since Episode 2. Quick bullet points:
1) We still know absolutely nothing about Snoke or the rise of The First Order, or how Snoke was even able to manipulate Kylo Ren. Or how Maz got Luke's lightsaber from Empire Strikes Back. The fact the movie just shrugs and pretends none of those are important details after two movies is just baffling.
2) How useless is Snoke? So he's apparently this huge monster clearly strong with the force, yet gets taken down in roughly the second scene we see of him. Laughable main villain. We still knew nothing about him.
3) Kylo Ren is able to turn on a lightsaber with his mind and Snoke apparently couldn't see it coming because reasons. This completely contradicts past movies. Hey, remember that legend Luke Skywalker? You know, the guy apparently stronger than his nephew. Remember in his situation with Palpatine? Probably could have flicked the switch on there. Or when Obi-Wan was on the ledge in Phantom Menace, could have just turned the lightsaber on and cut Darth Maul's fucking feet off.
4) Leia is able to coast along in space because more reasons. I'm sorry, it's absolutely stupid and if you actually try to defend it more power to you.
5) The Finn and Rose stuff is entirely useless to the plot. The codebreaker is seen once, then they are somehow able to find an even better codebreaker who is somehow able to sneak off and tell the First Order their plan. Rose didn't really add anything to the movie, I think they just wanted to have an even more diverse cast.
6) Why the fuck didn't they just tell Poe the plan instead of creating turmoil on the ship over it? I mean, the fuck were they gaining not telling people? 8) The opening "on hold for Hux" bit might be the worst scene in Star Wars. It's so forced and doesn't feel like it belongs in the universe, which was also a problem I had with some lines and scenes in Force Awakens.
9) No final duel. Sure, we get that Kylo and Rey scene taking down the guards (Are they the other Knights of Ren? Not going to explain that? What a surprise), but every movie is built up to a final conflict between two characters. Luke VS Kylo had all these elements to make it one of the best scenes in the franchise after Force Awakens yet we're robbed of it here.
The mood of the audiences leaving after those first showings was just dead silent. Nobody seemed excited. For the best film franchise ever, they sure have had more bad movies than good ones at this point.

Exactly. It's like those Mickey Mouse film writers don't understand the difference between the governing of a county of states vs governing over multiple counties [planets]

Its a movie designed to sell toys and in-app purchases to kids guys. If you want intricate space politics George Lucas made you your own trilogy in the early 2000s.

You are a funny person. It's not about "intricate" it's about not being transformers.
