i used to be a lot more argumentative online. i also used to be pretty conservative. it's a tricky thing...conservatism is logic-driven IF you accept its assumptions. but like they say in college, logicis not truth. i got conservative when i was living and working in San Francisco and was doing pretty well for myself, but after i lost the house and had to leave California i found myself needing help from sources i used to decry like the two-years extension in unemployment benefits that Obama did. once i found myself in that position i could no longer support policies which assume that everybody can thrive without government facilitation.
now i don't really know what i believe. Communism didn't work, capitalism doesn't work, socialism to an extent seems to work OK in Europe if you discard the American assumption that year-to-year growth is the be-all/end-all outcome. but would it work in the US, a much larger and more diverse place than the typical European country? i dunno. Lately i'm preoccupied with the question of whether Nazis should have free speech rights or whether Antifa is a good thing. i dunno.
i guess i also saw that my argumentative presentation was just what i hated in other internet users. i was being THAT guy, and it also took too much out of me. i can't get as invested in words on a comments section--the scourge of the internet!--as some commenters can be. nowadays i look at the first few comments and if the tone is too nasty i just click back out of it. really, i tend to post less frequently on my forums thqn i used to, because feel like i have less and less to say.
