They're apparently lovely pets. They're just not domesticated quite yet (as opposed to a dog which per years of evolution, can be left alone in a house) and they're heard animals so you can't leave them alone.

Stemming from dogs, my brother's black lab was none too thrilled to see a Great Grey Heron on Thanksgiving. The thing was about 4 ft tall and I don't think she has ever seen one before.

You know something Chank? I think it actually was a crane my brother's dog was barking at. I wanted to post a Heron picture but the posture was radically different (RADICAL POSTURE reference sort of ) then what was on the dock Thanksgiving Day. I also didn't post anything because...yeah...those birds are mean. I've seen them LITERALLY eat other birds.

Cranes are much more badass than herons…
