I went and did some saxophone session work with some friends last year and the EP just dropped. I've been on something like a dozen releases in some capacity, but this is the first time I'm having any sounds I've made pressed to wax. Super excited. First light workout since the back injury today. It might just be the endorphins talking, but I instantly feel better. Was starting to feel depressed and falling into bad habits again without the outlet.

trying to make a mix tape for my dad. fuzzier rock stuff. he digs the sabbath and the purple and all the usual suspects, but mostly listens to the hits. i'm thinking of making a mix of older stuff he probably hasn't listened to that much and newer stuff he might like. like maybe some roky erickson, some blue cheer, some witch, some sleep, some jex thoth. just have to find the right songs that are more like rock hits than jazz odysseys. also trying to limit the selection to bands that are not too punk for him. like, i think dead moon is one of the best rock bands ever, but i fear the production is just too lo-fi for him.
i feel like this is something i can give him that's like a nice thing your kid can give you (we've bonded over music a lot), and that he might possibly even like and find inspiration in. he has just retired and started to re-learn playing the guitar, so maybe some new tunes might help him with that as well.

it's fun to listen to good songs and think what someone else might like about them. i should do this more often.
