it's strange watching the prices go up on the same guitars that created the vintage market to begin with. :idk:

They do price things high, but I always assume that stores expect you to negotiate on used/vintage items. However, given the fact these guitars are incredibly rare, I doubt they'd be willing to negotiate much.

Yeah, I never took that into consideration, but I don't have too much experience with stores like that. I wonder if you can talk places like that down.

the quality had gone down so much by the time we made it through the 70's, (norlin/gibson, CBS/fender, baldwin/gretsch et all) people started buying the old guitars and the vintage market was born. in the meantime we had the japanese making better copies by using the old designs. it took a long time for gibson and fender to get their shite together again. a really long time.

that's not saying that the 70's LP custom is shite, it's just saying that there was a change that gradually happened and people started noticing, and by the time the takeovers were in full swing we had 3 piece necks instead of one, 2 and 3 piece bodies, pickups that didn't push the same power....stuff like that added up to less impressive guitars and the better ones were cheaper (at the time).

and for the record....i love 70's LP customs and deluxes but yet i have severe dislike for a 70's strat or tele....baldwin gretsch's are lame and sad but there is the gretsch broadcaster from that period which is pretty kool. yet compare a 70's LP jr to a 50's model and the 70's falls way flat.
a starter guitar from the 50's was a LP jr, a starter guitar from the 70's is a marauder. i love them both but there is a huge difference in quality and the marauder can't really be compared to the Jr due to such changes.

of coarse now we can go throw a rock and hit a nice guitar for cheap. fukking xavier and the like. so yea...it's weird seeing things like this going for that price...you used to not be able to sell them for 100 bux.

in closing i'd like to say: ...i feel old. ......... and i want a marauder sooooo fukking bad. never played a starcaster but the coronado was just horrid.

Haha. I was actually a little worried that this thread was going to be about those too. I was relieved to see a picture of the real deal after I clicked. I should have just looked at who created the thread to realize everything would be alright.

Yeah, that is quite odd. I enjoyed the tale though. And now I consider that one of my prized basses was a starter model, whereas the other was a relatively pricey and well made instrument for it's time, and I paid the same amount for both of them. :idk: all I know is I want a Ripper now. And those are hovering around the $1K mark. Oh well.

It's no secret that I'm a Radiohead fan, and that I've wanted one of these guitars for ages. :!!!:

After I get a tele, and an SG, I'll be getting one of these. Hell, it's already in my guitar collection, it just doesn't know it yet.
...and I've got no mother and I've got no dad. :yay:

I've always wanted one of these.
If the price ever drops I'll buy one for sure. That ticks off everything I want in a guitar.
Oh well.
