$350 a pop! yow! I'll stick with the Novaks at $190...good enough for Lee Ranaldo, good enough for me.
I was thinking of doing the $85 version but maybe not or maybe just one pickup. There's a quote from Lee on the site about using their pickups in his Jazzblaster.
crazy. it doesn't say which he uses, though. on the Novak site, they also show pickups they supposedly reworked for Lee. I wonder... I must say I'm curious, but a $450 pickup is just nuts.
This was my first "legit" guitar, I still love it to death, but after getting a John Lennon Casino, I'm becoming more and more aware of it's flaws. I now want to take the opportunity to really take this guitar and make it my own. Starting with stripping the polyurethan finish, and just keeping it a walnut stain. The pickups, I'd like to play around with. I definitely am leaning towards a Novak WRHB for the bridge, but was thinking of a humbucker sized P90, or even a Jazzmaster pickup. Anybody experiment with putting a JM pickup in the Deluxe? Is there any modification required for the pickguard?

I know, it's kinda annoying. 450 per is insane. If anyone had that kind of money they would just get an original. I have my guitar sounding pretty good but not good enough. The clean sound is still a little lackluster and a little flubby. Someday, I want to take it in to get the wiring redone and get it setup properly. Sounds great with fuzz, though....
yep, still got those stock ones. I did a bunch of research on mods a couple of years ago but only changed the pots to 500k and changed the caps a couple of times. If I had it setup by a pro it would probably sound great. I set it up myself so I'm sure it could sound a lot better...
Ha, well if you can hold off, I'm thinking about ordering the Lollar Regals, then having Novak rewind the stock pickups, so I'll be able to compare 'em a bit. I haven't been able to find any comparisons online.
i played one of the stock reissues a couple of months back and thought it was just wonderful. i didn't have the time to get picky with it in terms of what i'd change because i was busy liking it; i often change caps and such on cheaper/imported guitars, and might well do on this as well if i thought it was necessary.

yep, I love the neck! I'm a big dude with big hands. I dig the flatter, more Gibson-esque fretboard radius on this guit, too.
I already ordered a new switch, new pots, caps, and tuners for it...pickups are next. I'm thinking I'm going to start with the Novaks. I'll decide if I want to re-bridge or re-saddle after it arrives.
My roomie has this guitar. I like it, considering I'm not really into humbuckers, for what it is for sure. The neck is pretty awesome. Like the way it fits my hand, but I could see others having trouble with it. His is actually flawed in the electronics. The volume for the neck does not work, but other than that it's fine.
