This. Also, get dynamics that aren't SM57s/58s. I've heard old Beyers are pretty cool, and they go for pretty good prices on eBay.

i've heard this is a very nice change in character for that pre. what tubes did you replace the old ones with?

Won an e609 on eBay, picking up a cheap art pre on craigslist and going to start seriously recording
