Long demos suck

I'm not particularly sensitive to the length of a demo. If there's a boring intro, that's easy enough to skip. I like a predictable format so I can skip to the part I want to see. Talk at the beginning, then aimless noodling, then playalong to a backing track, then fiddle with the knobs. I'll skip to the knob fiddling.
I think a lot of demoers are less about the demo than they are about building their brands so they'll spend a lot of time chatting to make their viewers feel like friends.

I'd watch some jwar demos; hell, at some point I'll probably have my head pulled far enough out of my ass to send you some stuff to check out/critique (ridicule encouraged).

I also agree on the fact that you needn't spend a lot of time cultivating a cult of personality, you have enough of that as it is - and it generally exudes from your simply doing stuff so cutting right to the chase/work-out would be choice.

You all rock! hahaha! So, I recorded my first one, but after reading all of your suggestions, I'm going to go back and redo it a bit differently. Which is fine by me. :) My first one, I asked my youngest daughter to pick the pedal and she ended up picking two and both are flangers. Perfect ILF right? lol. She wanted them because of the color, which is cool with me! So, I think maybe I'll mix up how I do things. I did a small guitar part, small bass part and a small noisemaker (my kind of noisemaker). The demo had some planned riffs with different settings and then I used my personal favorite settings for both pedals. I also put some dirt in there to show what the pedals sound like with dirt.

My biggest difficulty is deciding how to make it shorter. I'm assuming that by shorter people are meaning less than 10 minutes? I need to refine it, but I have an idea, so I think it will be ok. The talking thing is the ONLY part I'm not sure on. Like, how quick would you want a run down to be? Maybe I do it at the end instead of the beginning so that if someone doesn't want to hear it, then can simply stop watching as well?

Visually. I'm thinking of making it kind of non polished but also intentional. Thoughts?

For sound quality. Do you all think it's best to have it truly isolated or would it be better to allow some ambience in there (room ambience I mean)?

Thanks all!!

Oh and I'm down to demo a pedal for sure! :)

would definitely watch. It would be cool to see a demo of a pedal that you just plain hated.

So, length under 10 minutes sounds good to me. Seeing anything longer than that puts me off, even though I realise I can just skip around. I'd rather watch the whole of a 5 minute demo than skip around a 30 minute one you know?

For sound, depends :idk: If your room sounds horrible then no  but if it sounds good then sure.

For solid entertainment or real quality info I'd hang in there for 20 mins personally

I like when JustNick sticks the talking on the end but if you have a fun framing device, you can try something else.
Intentionally messy visually is fine.
As long as we can hear the sounds coming out of your amp and not the ambient sounds of the strings, you'll be fine.

If it’s 8:xx or shorter I’ll watch it. If it’s longer than that I find a different one.

I don't mind 10 minute+ vids. If I'm not in the mood for it, always possible to skip through. Just make it whatever length you feel is right for that demo. Youtube puts more ads on videos over 10 mins though, so if you want to make money then consistently stretch it out no matter what
