Well I guess I’m weird. That not news lol. I’m still interested in it. I’d love to do it too.

I like articulated skeletons and things of the sort. Not so much lifelike, stuffed taxidermy.

Nothing to do with taxidermy. I just wanted to let Olin know I listened to this gem last night while driving home in a snow storm and then got all weird cause I realized I owned this CD for so long...

I changed the direction of this thread since I am the Grand Deputy Soy Astral Being.
FUCK YOU SPOTIFY... I'm going backwards.

While I'm hating on things... FUCK VERIZON TOO! Shutting down 3G towers so that people have to upgrade when they have perfectly good phones. EAT A DICK VERIZON! Thanks for making so I can't call the police in case of emergency.
Verizon is a bunch of cunts.
Happy Holidays Folks!

If I didn't need a phone for work I would get a flip phone. If I find out you can check E-mails on them... I still might.

I fully support this. Not asking anyone to quit spotify but I just don't use it bc I don't like the idea of the CEO making that much money in the music industry!
possible plan for quitting spotify:
1) pocket the monthly charge and try to donate directly it to your fav artists in some way. bandcamp.com, gigs. merch.
2) Discover current music on bandcamp.com especially local artists. Bandcamp payouts are very legitimate.
3) Discover related and classic artists/albums through discogs.com/
4) Set aside hard drive space to download classic albums off soulseek. 320kbps is a very good quality mp3 doesnt take up as much room as CD qaulity/wav.
5) Consider loading up a dedicated mp3 player. your phone /streaming wifi connectivity / alert noises have interrupted too may solid albums haven't they!

I'm glad you posted here Chromandre. I never used spotify... ever. But it was your post in the 'Music Snob Thread' that inspired this. Credit goes to my dear friend ibarakishi for using the word "disease" though. I straight up copied that.
Again, I never used it. But now I won't. I love my dedicated mp3 player. That was more me 1. Always liking them 2. I won't use my phone for music... ever. Sorry. Battery life is precious and I need my phone to be... my phone.
Stemming off you.
1. Yes, or buy shirts. I have too many damn band shirts... I'll keep getting them too.
2. Or just... talk to people. Not necessarily in the flesh. Forums are fine. I've gotten so many good reqs from people who post here. You literally do not have to go far.
3. This. Or again... here. Literally everyone here is a musician or fan of music in some capacity.
4. Bingo.
5. I do this. I'm big fan of this. Or use other forms of archaic media (vinyl, tapes, 8-track if you can find the shit, CDs). I'm actually not against digital at all so I don't want this misconstrued. I pay for digital downloads all the time. I actually bought an SD card from an artist... twice!

I binned Spotify not long after I signed up (can't recall why now), along with iTunes and a number of others.
I know they're no better than anyone else, but if I want to check out a band or artist I look them up on YouTube (advert free thanks to Adblock Plus).
I'm not up for big business extortion, so if anything like the Verizon thing happens in the UK I'd happily walk away rather than suck it up - my phone is set to 2G because an update had it searching for 4G constantly which kept flattening the battery.

I've been listening to more new music than ever since I started an Apple music subscription. I chose apple because you can integrate the subscription with your collection but it isn't actually working out that well. iTunes for Windows is a perpetually frustrating experience.

I meant to post this but it's not in my clipboard anymore and I'm not going back to thread to copy it. I have the same guitar Christmas ornament as you!

I love all that old SWANS. "Children of God / World of Skin" is great but my favorite is "Soundtracks for the Blind." My copy got stolen years ago but one day I will pick up another copy of that very excellent SWANS masterpiece.
Well, I just did some research and it looks like Young God Records will ship me some CDs of that masterpiece for about 20 dollars. There's also a 4 LP vinyl edition but I don't listen to vinyl because I'm not an astral traveler. I listen to CDs, man. I listen to them in my whip and in my crib. If Young God Records had "Soundtracks for the Blind" available on cassette I'd buy the cassette version because I listen to cassettes at home (analog warmth and total authenticity, automatic low fidelity street credibility). If I weren't moving away forever in two weeks, I'd melt that "buy" button.
Anyway, I've never used Spotify before and feel bad about Spotify for some reason I can't put my finger on. A week or so ago, on my Instagram feed, many artists posted how many plays their tunes got on Spotify. Many people posted data sets from Spotify about their listening habits. Those people are definitely astral travelers and have sex on the astral plane (i.e. Amazon Web Services cloud computer).
I don't use Verizon and I don't own any taxidermy. I have a squirrel skull, though, which I do not (but should) use in astral travel rituals meant to enhance my creativity vis-a-vis the amount of musical equipment I own.

Isn't downloading music off of soulseek just as bad as supporting Spotify? Granted soulseek isn't making a grip of money off artists like Spotify, the artists still are getting anything out of it.

Oh boy I know all of those feelings to a T (except not using Verizon... MIGHT KNOW THAT FEEL SOON THOUGH!).
Actually what's probably going to happen is I'm going to go to the store after doing some research, upgrade to a phone I find with great battery life, and go about my stupid life... not living in this plane... but the... astral plane.

I don't love spotify because it's not at all fair to artists but I do pay for it because it's the best platform I've found for discovering new music and the UI is great. If I like something a lot on spotify I'll generally try to buy it on bandcamp. I go to as many gigs as I can.
I probably buy more music and go to more gigs than before I got spotify so overall it probably works out as a good thing even though it effectively doesn't give small bands any money.
