And more power to people who dig that style. The thing that pisses me off is that it more or less pushed out malt-balanced IPAs completely out of the US market, so that I need to look for English IPAs, which are more or less impossible to find here. It just basically means I can't ever have a classic IPA, even if I want one.

Nah, you can definitely find many a tasty balanced IPA.
All the breweries in Portland has a normal and a hoppy as fuck IPA. Bridgeport Blue Heron is a near perfect IPA.
A cool thing that's been happening to balance some of the hops has been the birth of dark IPA's. Get the malts and the darker flavors with the crisp finish of the IPA's…seriously, Cacade Dark Ales [HUB, Widmere Brothers, etc] all have an incredible beer that's only been around for a few years…Order a HUB Secession Dark IPA online…soooo damn good.

This is true man but I definitely know what he's talking about. I'm very careful about what IPA's I get now and I live up the road in Wa. There are plenty of good ones but the HOLY FUCKING HOPZORZS! kinda rule the day. He may not be able to get some of the beers we take for granted here.

Lately this has been hitting the spot for me-

I've had every single beer Harpoon offers, and I'm going to be polite by saying they've never impressed me. Long Trail on the other hand makes great stuff. I love their standard ale, the Double Bag, the Harvest and the Hibernator. I'll try out their IPA soon, it's been a while and I can't remember my opinion of it.

I've never seen any of those brands out here on the east coast, other than Widmer. And we usually one get one or two Widmer brews, usually the Hefeweizen and the Drop Top. I'll keep my eye out for any others, thanks.

Interesting, I find the 90 minute to be a fucking hop sandwich. I can usually tolerate the 60 minute

Where the hell can you get Old Peculier in RI? I've never seen one in the wild.

Old Ales and pretty much all sour beers rock my world. I've had Old Peculier, but only in Europe.

Fair enough…I forget we are surrounded by beer, but it's a regional thing.

I kind of can't stand that Hefeweizen. I know it keeps the taps flowing for them, but never been a fan. I forget that New England doesn't have as much beer as we get out here. I end up drinking New Castle, Murphy's or Dogfishhead when I am visiting my folks in CT.

Do you get Stone, Rogue, or FullSail near you?

Yes, we get all of those. Although in my experience, I place Stone and Rogue in the group that is guilty of going way over the top with a lot of their brews. Last time I had a Stone Ruination IPA, I could barely finish it.

As for Full Sail, I really like their Amber Ale, it's one of the closest beers to an Altbier I can find in the US. Alts are one of my favorite styles; I drank about 9000 Alts in my semester in Germany.

Bigchief - apparently Providence Coal-Fired Pizza carries Old Peculier. Might be worth a visit!

Yeah, for Boston I know there's a place in Kenmore Square that carries it. Right near the dunkin doughnuts, down some stairs. Pretty much the only reason I ever went to Kenmore, actually.

I know I have seen it at Penguin on Mission Hill also.

I'm in the same boat with you and the "too much hops every-fucking-where."
