The main problem with French is that french people speak it. I have/had decent french speaking abilities but fucking frenchies pretend they have no clue what's going on. As a 16yo I tried ordering ice cream in French. That was basically saying "chocolait" and pointing to the chocolate flavor and the old fucking dragon behind the counter pretended she had no idea what was going on. I never spoke French again after that

This seems to align with every store I've heard about frenchies not named D'arcy.

It should be clear though that we collectively suck at foreign languages because we really suck at teaching them. IMO too academical (you do a hundred grammar exercices but never have an actual unscripted natural conversation in a foreign language). And the culture of poorly dubbing instead of subtitling like it makes sense (too much lost in translation otherwise) sure doesn't help. We're basically taught to think in French and do our best to translate. When to me owning a language comes down to the ability to think in it (though it can be the source of awkward moments because if I'm thinking in French and you ask me something in English or vice versa my brain will most likely hiccup and blend the two

) Luckily I didn't rely on school too much to learn anything
Grammar is something you can be taught in class. A foreign language is not. ans the French only teach in a class. Pedagogy is a lie. Etc.
So yeah Nils, if you ever make your way down there, we'll make a point of showing clerks you speak French better than they speak any foreign language. Repair the injustice.

That makes sense D'arcy. And yes I'll be applying to grad schools in Paris so maybe I'll be around
I think in Swedish mostly, but it changes quite quickly whenever I go to the US or to the Netherlands. The worst was on exchange when my brain was adapting to not speaking Swedish as much and my thoughts had all three languages in there. I was talking gibberish and had a constant headache

This is why I just smile and nod. I am terrible with languages and I'm probably past the point of being fluent in anything other than English when it comes to speaking. I can do ok with written stuff, but that's a very different thing.

Yea mine has been really out of control as of late since I'm looking towards bigger goals. Always feel like I'm stuck on the pot. I enjoy the way Kierkegaard views a lot of stuff and like his analogy for anxiety as someone standing on the edge of the cliff and being split between the emotions of fear of falling and wanting to throw yourself off of it.

The correct pronunciation is meam, rhymes with beam.
And the moving pictures are said like the peanut butter.
I'll ignore anyone whe says otherwise.
The dude who created them says its 'jiff,' too, so you're in good company.
I say 'gif' thought because what the fuck.
