Any suggestions
Can you make sure your friend used the right firmware for rev J?
it has to be this file, it is the only update for the rev j boards. It sounds liek makeybe he used the h/i update. They are not compatible. Please ask him to double check. This is the only update for rev j that has been released:

hey scott, i was meaning to update my revJ firmware today. does .931j include the level control for mode 3?
No, it does not. It is from last year. You can read about it here.

Hi Scott,
finally got a chance to install the latest FW. I don't have Windows so I had to ask a friend. It took some time and effort to do the update (first time I updated). Really like the new stuff!! Really appreciate all the work you put in it!
-mode 1: the added LFO is great. Now we have a modulation delay in the CT5. Very cool!
-mode 1: quantize is very nice. Especially for octave up. It is much more easy to get a rhythmic played sequence now.
-mode 3: quantize in this mode is great also. Have to spend some more time with it because it can get quit complicated to know exactly what's going on.
I have two more questions for you:
1) In mode 1 you get 1 repeat in unison 'mode' with the FB set at zero. But with the octave up (FB set to zero) you get two repeats and than a pause and then a few softer repeats. Why is that? and why does it give more repeats than one with the FB set to zero? This is also the case with 5th and octave down I think.
2) Did you get my mail for the knob replacements? My knobs are fading and I can't see the black lines anymore.

You can find mac update instructions further up this thread too.
It is normal to get 2 repeats, the read head will encounter the same buffer piece twice before the write head gets to it again, so you hear what was there twice.
And i will look for your email, I am still very behind on emails from June/July but get to some everyday, we can send you new knobs no problem.

ok great! Thanks for sending me the knobs. Yes I read about the mac update. But I thought it was too complicated for me so that's why I choose the Windows update.
Yes the two repeats are normal. But after the two repeats you hear a pause and then a few more softer repeats (with FB to zero).

I will do next week. You can check it the best in octave up 'mode' (dir knob all the way to the right).

Think I already found what it is. When in any other setting than unison and when you hold a longer note it writes the buffer again so you will hear two repeats and then after a short interruption again some more softer repeats. In octave up it only has two repeats if you play really short notes (so dampen the note before it starts writing again). In unison setting you don't have that because unison works like a standard delay. I was expecting the other quantize settings to do the same but it isn't. That was my thinking mistake.
Also thanks for adding the light when changing Q mode. Really helpful in a live situation to know which Q mode you're in!

Scott,
Just to be clear. I have a revision J. There is no way to give it all the new function-ability of the newest versions? I know it's going to be a no, so my real question is how often will you revise this circuit? I obviously want to be able to try the upgrades when available but can't afford to purchase each new revision. It'd be great if I could though!

Hi
we will add some of the features but not all to the h,i and j. hopefully soon but wee are pretty busy lately.
although it seems like there is a lot of versions there are really only 3 versions of the circuit, sometimes i make different board revision just to know which batch it came from since they are made in runs, not one at a time.
h and i are the same circuit
j is a circuit (basically identical h and i but with 3rd switch) so h i and j are sort of a family.
k and l are another circuit, both the same.
about 75% of all units made are from k or l rev and this has been the model for over a year i think now. there is no plan to really change it and we are building stock now to last about 1 year (estimate?) so probably it wont change anytime soon since the future boards are already being built as rev l.
