I think you might be on to something there.
Not so sure about that. Implication being that xenophobia is inherent to human nature and only education can make us become non-douches.

Also part of it comes from upbringing. I was raised to be a xenophobe, racist and homophobe. My parents are part of the Australian white is right way of thinking of the 1950s. I didn't want any part of it. Times have changed and the world doesn't need more of that bullshit. As a result I was made into the family pariah. Better to be that than a hate filled douche. I chose to keep my family at arms length and I'm much happier as a result. Fuck people like that.

Exactly. Phanta, I don't think humans are bound to hate each other by nature. They are educated to hate, as much as some are educated not to be dicks. That doesn't mean you can break out of the education you've had.

Xenophobia is not intherent to human nature, of course. But to divide between "us and them" seems to come easy for us unless we are taught otherwise. That doesn't mean you need a college degree to not be racist, but you need to learn good values from your environment. A lot of the "illiterate troglodytes" have had a bad upbringing, thus making them the illiterate troglodytes they are. I didn't mean to say that for instance having learning difficulties makes you a bad person. However, there are plenty of people without learning difficulties that become idiots because of their environment, and idiots
seem to become more caught up in differences between themselves and others. These people then teach their misguided values to their children. Luckily, as our society has become more open, it's easier for duders and dudettes who have gotten bad values from their parents to break the cycle.
Did that make sense?

Humanity is a social species, not only is it in our best interest to work together, it's in our nature. Unfortunately there is a disconnect when the collective starts becoming hundreds of people, then it becomes "we are the together" and "they are a competing other together".
As humans we make use of stereotypes and schemas, they are essential to general day to day life but unfortuantely sometimes backfire and they can be difficult to break once formed. Another problem is that people refuse to acknowledge that EVERYONE is prejudiced in some fashion, no matter how you were bought up there is no helping it. Most prejudice is subconsious until we are made aware of it. The trick is recognising it and fighting it, that's what makes you a cool human.

Exactly. People are free to do what they want, but not to choose what it is that they want (or like). Only social interaction can steer us in the right direction, not a single humans opinion.

So I think my new gig just wound up displacing someone I was working with and now I feel shitty about it.

That sucks dude. Company management and their bullshit. Don't feel too bad. It is their game, not yours. I've been in the reversed position. I once had to train a guy that was replacing me. I was the last to know, but I did kind of suspect it was going to go down like that.

Lately the kangaroo's have not been hanging around our property. Not sure what has happened but I'm thinking that they have been culled because of the local horse racing event is happening next weekend. That pisses me off. The roos have been around the area a lot longer than a once a year fucking horse race.

that kangaroo jank is just flipping wrong yo.....
Also: Mildly irritated because I have no work right now, could be back at my hotel just chilling, or catching up on some sleep. Time changes blow.
But I am here at the factory, doing nothing. It's not like I am slacking either, there is no production today and only 4 people here, I don't have the resources to start a few projects till I hit the states and my next big task is a meeting tuesday.
Worst part is I don't think anyone else has any work either, but I think they are here because I am in town, I think if I was gone they would all be home.
They are playing work for me, but I don't care if they go home.

What makes it legal for the government to take, by force if necessary and with heavy punishment if I refuse, what I've earned by my time and effort? They say it is. So just remember where the government gets all its free money. Strong-armed robbery. Optimistically, a liberal government takes from the rich and gives to the poor. Realistically, it takes from everyone and gives to whomever it chooses.
Calm down ayn rand. The point is to create a society where all have equal opportunity. Of course corruption and greed are always around. Especially in something as narcissistic as politics.

Yeah I'm not a politician, I mean it in the very specific sense of providing education, health care, welfare.
Of course assholes ruin everything except for shitting and anal. Even that sometimes actually.
We should should just round them all up and bonfire them 16th century stylez.
