This riff got stuck in my head this morning and drove me insane trying to figure out what it was.
I don't know if this should be here or the jazz thread. It is rare that I listen to jazz, but looking through old Norwegian concert photo archives led me to this:
yall ever go without listening to music? theres been a 2 week period so far where ive forced myself to listen to song...think im dieing...spiritually...gonna go drone the xmas blues away...the song that goes unheard but unto the creator....selah.
this is a clip from NBC's "Night Music" 1990...the best music TV series ever. skip to 33:52 for Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, Karen Mantler, Bootsy Collins, Pretty Fat, members of Karen's band, and the house band of host David Sanborn, Hiram Bullock, Phillipe Saisse, Tom Barney, Omar Hakim, and Don Alias performing a sprawling, magnificent take on Carla's "Lawns" and "Healing Power." the rest of the episode includes Allen Toussaint as well as individual performances by the above artists. there are two whole seasons of this show on YouTube (search "night music sanborn") which feature everyone from Sun Ra and Miles Davis to NRBQ, Richard Thompson, the Pixies, and Sonic Youth. have fun...i know i will.
