there's a intriguing story that goes along with this song...Jimmy Miller decided that it needed a female backing vocal. they had Bonnie Bramlett in for the whole day and evening, but she couldn't nail it, so they called Merry Clayton in the middle of the night. she didn't want to go; she was heavily pregnant, and she even know who the Rolling Stones were. her husband did, though, and talked her into going in. she showed up with her hair in curlers and nailed it in two or three takes. a few weeks later she miscarried her unborn baby; it's long been speculated that the stress of that vocal caused the miscarriage.
