That's pretty neat. Pricey though...

qersty I've had similar troubles looking for used stuff in Europe/UK, based on all the advice on the net - I found one that I played for a couple of years but it's falling apart a bit and the electronics are rubbish, so wasn't the bargain I thought it was... It works but it's not a top quality instrument.

To be honest the Recording King I started with was in some ways better than the thing I replaced it with, those are entirely solid guitars that sound alright, and cheap. So I wouldn't necessarily write off all the cheap brands immediately.

Got a better 8 string now (used UK-made, still pretty reasonable price) and it does make a difference and I love it, but to get started you can do a lot worse than some of the cheapies I think - and I've read a lot of people more experienced than me say the same. :idk:

That said keeping your eye out for a real bargain on a used guitar must still be a good idea! Would just recommend playing first...

Also.. if you are the diy type.. they are almost the easiest thing to make.. you just need a 2x6, tuners, bridge, pickup + a few items and bam! Lapsteel! You can even buy the cool plastic “fretboard” with lines if you don’t want to just draw you own on.. or find a old husk body from some asshole that NEEDED to make a coodercaster… and use it as a platform for Frankensteining

that’s my plan. assuming i don’t get a lap steel before i do the Supro Bigsby guitar project, i’ll put one or both of the Vistatone pickups from the Supro in some sort of steel. if i found a doubleneck i could put one in each.
