landed these three for a good price off CL. couldn't say no.

I've been wanting a SEM or an MS-20m, so time will tell what I'll keep of the three. but I got em at such a good price...
it's bordering overkill now:

Nice score! Look like keepers. I'd imagine they would give you enough variety in tone, from what you already have.

Yea, we played with Mae Shi in April of 2004 in Bakersfield...he didn't stick around long...don't know if it was Bakersfield or us (either way, probably redneck fear!). I think we played with him or he was at the Il Corral or something and he was real nice there. haha, I just remember thinking it was crazy that he drove the full thing up 2 hours for one show. So probably around the same time?
The Il Corral had some weird instrument that either stane or bob (i think) had that took up a whole room and was something Nora would love. Can't remember for the life of me what it was called though. Some weird keys/percussion/strings hybrid that was like 80 years old and one of two in the world. There was an article about it I think in LA Weekly or something...but that was 10 years ago.
Sorry about the tangent, but it reminded me to check who we played with at Il Corral [and I am keeping this here so I don't loose it so I can transcribe it//brain is damned fucked] (The Fugue (NYC), Night Wounds, Knit Witch (Not Not Fun), Lord Galvar (Bakersfield, CA, Member of Hips), Andorkappen vs. Preassesembled Washfountain Face).

I'm a guitarist who recently acquired a bout of synth gas, and now looking at this thread it's killing me even more. So much awesome stuff

I was looking at the korg ms-20 mini, what do you aficionados think of those? I'm reading that it's semi modular, don't really know what that means, would I be able to hook up an external rack of modules?

MS-20s are awesome. The Minis are a bit fragile and plasticy. Have you seen the new desktop? Maybe too expensive?
And, yes, "semi-modular" means that it is open to many routing opinions, via patch cable.

I've been wanting to get the desktop module version, but at 3X the price of the mini, it's hard to justify the build quality considering they sound the same.
I'm just going to bite the bullet and buy a mini. expect a post later today if I pick it up as planned.

I think, if you don't need the extra space afforded by the desktop, don't plan to gig it heavily, and aren't bothered by the smaller keys, the Mini is fine.

The MS-20 mini is awesome! The desktop version has its improvements:
- completely made in Japan
- patch jacks and potentiometers are fastened with screw nuts
- standard sized jacks
- OSC Sync and PWM possibilities
Overall I'm happy with my MS-20 mini. I would only swap it against a (good sounding) original MS-20.

I think the desktop ms-20m is BIGGER then he mini.
I just got it. I am surprised by the high noise floor - not that it'll matter after I run it through some pedals anyways.

The mini's noise floor is higher through the headphones output. The SIGNAL OUT output is a lot quieter.

I have a microkorg too but it doesn't get as much use now that I have the OP-1

Cool! I love my OP-1, too. And, I would really like to have a SK-5.
