Yeah, his stuff is mesmerizing to me--his right hand technique really stands out. Lots of great stuff in that tradition (Kurdish as I understand it). Check out Persian "setar" (as opposed to Hindustani "sitar") for a different take on a similar instrument (to us westerners at least )
Also--search out alternative spellings: I've seen tanbour, tanboor, tanbur, tambour, tembûr and more. Different ethnic groups will have different variants in both modes and instruments (and westernized spellings).
