I saw the National open for the White Stripes a lifetime ago and was not impressed. I didn't get it. 3 years ago, working a dead-end job in their hometown of Cincinnati, going through my second divorce in 3 years, living with my estranged father, losing myself, everything clicked. I got the National and I rank them with the Cure and the Smiths among my favorite bands now. Such a diverse, fascinating catalog. This is a perfect 18 minute set.
